Default Nvidia to drop 280 / 260 prices

    Nvidia to drop 280 / 260 prices

    $90 and $30

As of tomorrow, Nvidia plans drop the prices of Geforce GTX 280 and 260. The reason for this sudden price cut is that the cards are not selling as well as Nvidia expected. The second part of the story is that Radeon HD 4870 ended up better than Nvidia had hoped.

Nvidia will cut $90 of the Geforce GTX 280 price-tag, but this is Nvidia's price to partners and we are not sure just how much will this affect the suggested etail price. We are sure that end user prices will also drop but probably a bit less than $90.

The Geforce GTX 260 will be $30 cheaper to partners and Nvidia will only offer limited price protection which means that some partners / distributors and stores might end up with some overpriced cards at their warehouses.

Many people won’t be happy but as of tomorrow GTX 280 and GTX 260 should be cheaper.

    Making it hard to sell

Geforce GTX 280 and GTX 260 are dropping down to a more acceptable price tags and it looks that this won't be the only price adjustment.

Our sources believes that GT200 series is just the beginning and that such a price drop will bring Geforce 9800GTX further down and possibly affect some slower products.

Geforce 9800GTX is also having a hard time selling as Radeon HD 4850 is selling for less and it performs the same or very similar. Currently, the cheapest Geforce 9800 GTX is selling for around €199 while the cheapest Radeon HD 4850 sells for €138. The gap simply needs to get smaller in order to sell Nvidia.

if parehas ra ug price ang 9800gtx ug ang 4850... people would still go for 4850, since it beats the 9800gtx in a lot of benchmarks... plus it runs cooler, and requires less power.

mao ni benefit sa competition. to all fanboys: maka enjoy kaha mo ug cheap prices kung wala competition? so don't pray for the other's downfall, pray that they survive para barato gihapon.
