    Default TOMAS vs. THE GARCIAS

Winston hits back at Mayor OsmeƱa

GOVERNMENT Service Insurance System (GSIS) President Winston Garcia lashed back at Cebu City Mayor Tomas OsmeƱa over the weekend, saying he is ā€œmore Cebuanoā€ than the mayor.

This Winston said after the mayor tagged him a ā€œhypocriteā€ for residing in a city that the Garcias criticized as just the ā€œ20th most livableā€ among Philippine cities.

ā€œI could be wrong, but I do not think Tomas was born in Cebu. He did not study college in Cebu, and he was nowhere to be found in Cebu during the difficult years of Martial law. He abandoned Cebu, then,ā€ Winston told Sun.Star Cebu.

The OsmeƱas went into exile in the US when former president Ferdinand Marcos declared Martial Law and staged a crackdown against his political enemies.

    He left

The mayor’s brother, former senator Sergio OsmeƱa III got imprisoned and escaped with Eugenio Lopez, whose family owns television network ABS-CBN.

ā€œSo who is the hypocrite now? When he, Tomas OsmeƱa, left Cebu when times were hard, whereas I am sticking it out in Cebu even if the mayor has made the city now just the 20th most livable city,ā€ Winston said.

Business magazine MoneySense this year ranked Cebu City as the 20th city in the list of ā€œBest Places to Live,ā€ with the cities of Bacolod, Makati, Davao, Marikina and Iloilo being named the top five.

The Philippine Human Development Report of the Human Development Network and the United Nations Development Programme and the Philippine Cities Competitiveness Ranking Project (PCCRP) of the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Policy Center were used as basis of the new list.

Raymond, Winston’s nephew, the other day said that when his father Alvin was mayor, Cebu City was fourth and then seventh most livable city in Asia.

Winston said that he was ā€œmore Cebuanoā€ than Mayor OsmeƱa because he was born, studied in, and got married in Cebu City.

His children, he said, were baptized in Cebu City, and until his Manila assignment, he has always lived here.

Winston argued that he has every right to question the way OsmeƱa made a ā€œmessā€ of Cebu City.

Winston also took exception to OsmeƱa’s statement that he cannot run for senator because he has many enemies, particularly those who lost their pensions when he took over as GSIS president and general manager.

    Not running

ā€œWhy is he encouraging me to run for senator? I’m not running for any elective office, not for senator, not for anything,ā€ he said.

He clarified that after doing some housekeeping, he only removed the pensions of those who are not entitled to them.

The mayor, on the other hand, gave ā€œvery little, if at allā€ to City Hall employees who are entitled to bonuses because City revenues were diverted to paying its huge foreign debt, he said. (RHM/From a report)

Bisag kinsang pang Garcia-ha diha... patabanga na sila tanan. hehe. Bitaw, Winston I think hits the bullseye.

that article was actually is Winston's retaliation to this article that came out last Friday.

    http://sunstar.com.ph/static/ceb/200...or.osme.a.html

OsmeƱa said he has no intention of stopping the Garcias from running.

ā€œI analyze what they are saying. They have (Aristotle) Batuhan, they have (Lahug Barangay Captain) Mary Ann (delos Santos), and they have (former sports commissioner Jonathan) Guardo, (former mayor) Alvin (Garcia), (his son) Raymond (Garcia). These are all recycled losers, Cebuanos do not like recycled losers. We are pro-environment but this is too much,ā€ said OsmeƱa.

However, the mayor admits that he likes their attitude.

OsmeƱa said it was good to see those who ran in last year’s elections being satisfied with landing second place.

ā€œLike Alvin Garcia, ā€˜I almost won!’ Very Good, do it again. Almost win again. These are the best kind of opponents to have, people are happy coming out second place. Guardo was also second place, good,ā€ he said.

Asa man paingon ang banda ana bro ari man gyud sa galingkud.

I'll scratch your back, you scratch mine. Mao nga one of the big boys unya sa business circle diha sa SRP is no other than Tommy boy bisan dili na siya Mayor. Pero he deserves that kay naghago sad siya. But for me tinuod kay bisag asa ka karon mangita ug maayong road diinhi sa Cebu except SRP wa man dyud.
