    Default Windows Defender

    Windows Defender (Beta 2) is a free program that helps protect your computer against pop-ups, slow performance, and security threats caused by spyware and other unwanted software. It features Real-Time Protection, a monitoring system that recommends actions against spyware when it's detected, and a new streamlined interface that minimizes interruptions and helps you stay productive.

    Yeah this is the old MS Anti-Spyware (which was also formerly known as Giant Anti-Spyware 'til MS bought them). Aside from the name change, they have done some tweaks also under the hood. It now has a much more streamlined interface, & less of that annoying security pop-ups.

    WARNING: The installer will check for a valid license key during setup. Installation will fail if you have one of those dodgy VLK.

    It's really not that bad for a piece of FREE software. Let's face it, when it come's to spyware.. there's really no one stop solution. At work, our guys uses a combination of Defender, Spybot, Spy Sweeper to do the first initial scan for customer's drive. Then they finish it off with HijackThis, manual Registry editing, and file removal if necessary.

    Still useless! Results of scans on Windows x64 on the same system after getting latest definitions with Defender having first go:

    @vern

    Been trying to do that but my HTML doesn't seem to be coming out right. Sorry. Something about Forum codes being different from standard HTML, I think.

    You can right click and download the screenshots. They're perfectly readable.
