Dont include lenses also, just the basic unit, kay ang lense add on mana. You can always buy that right?

D80 - very nice build. 3D matrix metering system. top lcd display.
450D - cool liveview and other modern features but i would exchange my 450D for a D80 anytime (as long as it is below 1500 actuations)

Professional
40D
D300 - although a semi-pro camera this baby is very capable. LiveView, 3D matrix metering. whew. If I got cash I'll get this one.

Top of the line
D3 or 1D MK3

But there is no Nikon distributor, office or whatever here so best warranty and service for Nikons are abroad.

there other brands of slr cameras out there. but the best two are canon and nikon. personal choice na lang yan! my brother likes canon. my dad likes nikon.

most DSLRs nowadays are comparable/similar in functions/features within the 3 categories you mentioned. as for IQ, that can be a question of personal preference, and either in-camera settings or PP can usually "correct" what you think is a deficiency.

you have to consider that when you buy a DSLR, you're actually buying into that brand's DSLR system, so you'd have to consider its lenses/accessories in your decision. i've been a Canon user since the early 80s and i'm very satisfied with my gear. but if i were to start from scratch (never had a DSLR and moving up from a P&S), i'd say Nikon would be a very cost-effective solution (not to mention that it is one of the best camera brands). just get a body (be it entry-level, semi-pro or top-of-the-line) + the 18-200, and you already have the most useful range covered. i know quite a few who took this route.
