    Default NO DISPLAY...Help!

naa ko pentium 3 which I decided to "bring back to service" aron magamit sa akong anak. i replaced it's busted 250watts power supply with a new 350watts ATX power supply from CDR-King. i turned it on and it worked just fine. i cleaned it up of unecessary old data files to maximize it's 10GB hardrive. viewed some old pics that I have in the unit and re-organized the remaining contents. puro data files lang sa DATA partition akong gihilabtan. I didnt tinker at all with the system files.

after about 2 hours of using it, i turned it off - and called it a night.

this morning, when i turned it on, there's no display in the monitor. mag sige lang blink ang LED light sa monitor, meaning walay signal gasulod. but the CPU i can tell is working just fine. i restarted several times but still, walay display. then sa last pag restart nako...after waiting for several minutes for a miracle to happen...i heard 3 beeps from the CPU.

i dont know what that means? so i just turned off the unit na lang.

by the way, the MOBO is an Intel P3 8oo Mghz. It has it's own built-n VGA port.

it's AMI bios. i checked the MOBO, there's a chip there with the American Megatrends mark.

Three long beeps na cya? Its probably dust sa imo memory. Just blow off dust inside the casing. Take off your memory and put it back in.

And it beeps 3 times? Are you sure about that?
3 beeps with Ami bios means Base 64K memory failure, A memory failure has occurred in the first 64K of RAM. The RAM IC is probably bad (or lost contact)

bingo! that could be it! i remember after turning it off last night, I removed the RAMs to clean them and to check what type of RAM i need to look for since i am planning to buy another one since i still have 1 RAM slot left. I have 2 64K RAM isntalled.

so either i have a damaged RAM or just lost contact?

Maybe the contacts are corroded. Just try to clean the memory slots and the contacts of the memory.
Of course, you could have destroyed a memory by static charge of your body at the time you touched the memory module... Hard to tell whether its bad memory or dirty contacts...

Thanks a lot for the help bro! indeed it's the memory that's causing the problem. I just removed the RAMs and re-installed them. The contacts are fine and clean by the way.

    the PC's working fine again.

Thanks again and have a nice day!
