How to trust someone?

What does it really take in order to trust a person?
Why do I find it difficult to trust someone even if I've known the person long? Does it pays to be skeptical?
Please.. anyone I'm really confused.. I need some answers..

It pays to be skeptical sometimes but if there is someone interested in you and you are skeptical about the sudden show of interest, it's a bit scary....

Sometimes you just have to observe if they do what they say .... it's important to pay attention to the things that people do.
