wait lang mga pare ha kay nangita pa ko why they give him an award like that. Kay ako personally ako nga saksi sa iyang pag serbisyo. As in, yukkky!

I think its because he lives in the baranggay hall. he have a big screen flat tv inside, toilet for him and his family, kitchen (big one), sleeping bed/ or good looking sofa, he attend's party regularly and he ignore most of the problems in his baranggay. I've visited the baranggay hall many times myself and I'm still confused why the government of cebu allow this kind of treatment sa baranggay hall. I wonder too like nindotkanon how he got the award. hehe

to the thread starter, pls follow forum rules by posting some info first. but anyway, ako nlng.

The brgy captain of Zapatera, Mr. Jose Marino Benedicto, or "Joema" to some, aged 37 yrs old, is a good ol' friend of mine. though he might have weaknesses in handling brgy affairs, his strengths far outnumber those.

He recently got an award for winning a public speaking competition in Japan to which he represented Cebu. He will then represent the Asia Pacific in the JCI World Conference in Tunisia late this year. He is also active in civic works as a member of the Jaycees.

the City Council then recognized Joma w/ an award for the achievement, congratulating him through a resolution and thanking him for “giving honor and distinction to the family and ultimately to the City of Cebu.”

Recently, he was considered by BOPK to run as City councilor. The mayor had also announced that he wants young blood to join the city, and Zapatera’s first-time Barangay Captain Jose Marino Benedicto has been floated as a possible candidate.

the Cebu City Disaster Coordinating Council under PROJECT CHAIRMAN JOEMARI BENEDICTO conducted a city wide fire drill in brgy Zapatera last July 23, 2009. The drill was to measure response time of the Bureau of Fire Protection, and the synergy among responding agiencies, PNP, CITOM, ERUF and other volunteer agencies. and if im not mistaken, the FIRST EVER CEBU CITY COORDINATED FIRE DRILL.

He was also awarded w/ a Plaque of Appreciation by his high school alumni from Cebu City National Science High School for giving honor and prestige to his alma mater in the field of public service.

i believe his family lives in the brgy hall (as approved by our city mayor) due to financial distress. Pila ramay sweldo anang brgy capt tawn. He is not corrupt like the others.

Son follows in pa’s footsteps, leads barangay

THEIRS is a tale of two fathers, with one outdoing the other.

But former Zapatera, Cebu City barangay captain Francisco “Frank” Benedicto Sr. said he is proud that his son, Jose Marino “Joma” Benedicto, is performing better than he did as barangay captain.

Joma, he said, has also surpassed him in other achievements. The son won in the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Asia Pacific conference public speaking contest in Nagano, Japan last June 6.

Joma, who bested 61 contestants from other countries, will represent the Asia Pacific in the JCI World Conference in Tunisia late this year.

Last June 10, the City Council recognized Joma for the achievement, congratulating him through a resolution and thanking him for “giving honor and distinction to the family and ultimately to the City of Cebu.”

Joma, 37, is also being eyed as possible administration candidate for city councilor in the 2010 elections.

Frank, 62, said he had always taught his children to strive hard and achieve greater things.

He noticed that growing up, the eldest of his three children already showed leadership potential in school and in the community, because of his “people skills.”

That quality, he said, is reflected in the way Joma runs the barangay.

“Kamao siya makighoyhoy sa mga tawo. (He knows how to put people at ease.) Mo-admit gyud ko that he is better (than I am),” Frank said.

But he said he has no insecurities, and is not threatened by the possibility that their constituents will long for Joma’s leadership more than his style of running the barangay.

Frank is content that he has helped his son become his own man.

And though he is eyeing to become barangay captain again, Frank said he will even give way to his son, if Joma will tell him that he wants to run for a second term.

“It is because Joma is better than the best,” grinned the man who was “father” of the barangay for 14 years.

Now a parent to three-year-old Candace, Joma said the former barangay captain had always told them that if others can do it, they could do it better.

“He built my confidence,” Joma said.

Frank said he will be content living in his son’s shadow, and that he felt nothing but joy seeing that he has molded Joma into a man better than himself.
