Changing from AC97 to X-Fi Extreme Music

im a current user of an onboard AC97 7.1 and i was wondering how much of a performance and sound difference if i change to Creatives X-Fi Extreme Music sound card. im currently using an Altec Lansing 621

thats why im asking if dako ba ang difference even on a 2.1 speakers system wala ko mag apas sa 7.1 sa X-Fi just the sound quality on a 2.1 set-up
