    Default Burner Problem Question

    HELP!

I have around 100 gigs of videos in my hard disk and I just recently I bought some blank dvds to clear up some space. Now I noticed that some of the dvds i burned (burned them as data btw) come out as duds. I use Nero essentials and the program said I finished the burning process without a hitch, but the dvd has no data in it. If I go to to my computer my optical drive says it has a cd-rom. I checked the disc itself and claro man na giburnan cya.

I'm not a complete noob but this problem is just over my head... hehe...

When you burn your DVD, imo pa na ipa-check sa Nero? Pila pud ang speed sa pag-write nimo? I think 4x-8x ang recommended speed for writing.

I'd like to offer my ideas regarding your dilemma, but I would need you to answer a few questions first.

    1. What's the brand and make of your DVD burner?
    2. What type of blank dvd media did you use (+R or -R) and what was its rated burn speed (4X, 8X or 16X)?
    3. Did you do anything else during the burning process that would make use of your PC's resources (especially your CPU and hard drive)?

    Keep me posted. Thanks.

I have a toshiba tsst something. I'm not quite sure on the model number, I'll check when I get home. As for the type of dvds, I was using +R and -R's. Though I noticed I had more duds with -R's while I only 2 from +R's. I remember running Windows Media Player and Firefox on another instance.

I've read on a number of forums that +R's are better for video archiving purposes. My advice is to burn at slower speeds (4x-8x) and not do anything on the PC you're using until the process has completed. Also, try not to burn continuously in excess of a half hour or so to allow your burner "downtime" in between tasks. Lastly, try using media from another stack. I once bought a bunch of CD-R's where I was only able to burn and successfully read from about 5 out of 25 discs.

    I hope this helps.
