That means, we are now second in the list of the most preferred BPO investment sites and one of the most established countries in terms of BPO industry.
The BPO industry does not only include call centers. FAO, SEO and web content writing are included in the different fields under BPO. They are IT-based jobs similar to contact center. There are various companies in Cebu nga naa na ani. Some are hidden and not easily recognized, of course, to lessen operational cost and thus, to have big profit. Some are recognized online.
I don't belong to call center because I am not apt for graveyard works. However, I am proud sa akong mga friends and to people nga naa sa call center nga nag work in graveyard shift. Na dala nila ang stress. I have observed sad sa mga call center companies that they have good business environment with good facilities, good interior decor and...
I think, the reason that call center agents have stressful job is that they can be exposed to one of their clients' client with very discriminating demand. A call center agent's job is to be a customer's representative and that is to answer queries and complaints( which can be harsh). some are into telemarketing.
Honestly, I am also in the BPO industry working as a web content writer. The job can be fun but entails a lot of keenness. And it is not graveyard unless i want to work in the wee hours until morning to produce more outputs to have much bigger pay. Some companies in Cebu have this kind. But you have to go for foreign ones or companies that own by foreigners with good business practices. I can also be a freelance writer but i opt to remain loyal to my company to elevate my rank in the organization hierarchy. In fact, there are various websites that accept as freelance writing. Many of the companies prefer Filipinos. Look for Philippines Craiglist to check for job offers if you want to try this.
I believe that call center agents are NOT underemployed or being forced to do that job. Firstly, they know the nature of the job before they accept the contract to work in that call center company. Secondly, they know that they can receive much higher pay than the normal job position that they aim during their college years. Thirdly, if a person doing in a call center has been exceptional in doing his or her job, he or she could possibly receive a raise or promotion in the near future granting he or she remains loyal to the company.
Most call centers, if not all, are US-based companies. (Some are Indian) US call center companies and other BPO companies prefer the Philippines because of low labor cost, good quality of labor and tax incentives. India and Ireland have become more progressive in terms of economy because of the BPO industries. BPO industry which is an IT industry has aided in their companies. Ireland is more on software development. Ireland, in fact is one of the largest IT hubs in the world. The increased consumer spending (because some Irish are employed in this industry) has helped in Ireland's economic growth.
Why I am referring to these countries?
Because of call centers and BPO, some business establishments have also benefited in the Philppines. The high-income earners in the BPO industry has helped in fueling the growth of other industries. That means increase consumer spending. That is why some establishments such as coffee shops and restaurants open and are closer to the sites of call centers because they know or have the projection that they can profit by targeting call center agents. Many businesses will be established and flourish on sites where there are high-income earners.
Call centers are good news in the Philippines especially in Cebu. And it is true, you have to be streetsmart and be an academic performer to gain a better living. My job has helped me gain more access to opportunities that can be found on the Internet. My college diploma, for me, is one of my treasures. However, my job is unrelated to my course( I am a commerce grad). It has helped me though in improving the way I deal with my job and my career.
