ang idea man gud diri sa ato-a is... kung tarong ka nag eskwela tarong sab ka nga empleyado. Mao na mas mo prefer ang employer og dunay diploma.mao na nang resulta sa mga studyanteng Happy Go Lucky during college...
tumpak bro, its a no choice for our land of honor. for the betterment of our family and society everyone must work regardless of position. every work is noble enough to let our children see that we care for them and not for our pride. you can send them to good schools if you work in a call center di ba. stressful but at the end of the day you always accomplish another day of battle with the economics of your family and the country. family first and not pride, thats what all filipino must do. as they say you cannot have a house without a carpenter, your workplace will be dirty if you dont have a janitor, you cannot go to work without a househelp. everyone has its place in our so called society and we should thank that they are not ambitious enough to be a boss otherwise tanan mag boss nah, hehehe...Thats why I exerted it being a NECESSITY rather than being a LUXURY

So to all college studes..you shape your own future! Nobody else does that.
Nice thread!
First of all, I think we should be thankful for the call center industry in the philippines for a lot of reasons.
It is helping our economy big time, and the value of peso is constantly gaining strength.
It is providing employment for a lot of filipinos and at a less educational attainment requirement than expected
It is even paying more than the normal jobs that require the diploma.
I am a licensed architect and would have practiced my field if the market was good and fair to new graduates.
but since most established construction businesses take most of the contracts, making a name for myself might be a long shot. Without the call center industry, I would have been unemployed and out of business, like some people I know who are in the same field. (some have been practicing for years)
I see it as an alternative, and a hope for the jobless (Ive seen people working as an agent above 50 of age). I wouldn't complain about the salary (in comparison to other countries) either, since the value of labor in the country is directly proportional to the economy. If you look at hongkong a TSR agent would earn more than a million pesos annualy compared to a measley 200k (something I read from an IT professional website) here in the philippines. I would rather blame the presidents that greatly lowered the value of the peso. If you guys want to increase the cost of labor in the country, we should all work on increasing our economic value and that means ALL of US.. (kapoy na cgeg samok sa gobyerno)
Overall, I'm thankful for the callcenters and outsourcing in general for giving as a chance to recover our economy and our personal financial situations.
The bottom line is he is qualified, therefore pay him like US call center agent. ^ I assure you, that will never happen. one of the main reasons why US companies prefer outsourcing/off-shore jobs rather than US based ones is because of the savings.
yes, there might be incentives/bonuses for a job well done. probably a promotion and a raise that goes along with it. sometimes they hand out a piece of paper that recognizes the good job a certain agent have done for the company. BUT if you compare all that to what an average US-based agent gets, the discrepancy is so huge, it's not even funny.
if you look at the bigger picture, at the end of the day, it's still about business. it's all about the bottom line.
sad to say: call center agents are just numbers, just statistics... to those US company big shots.
Shut Up! Let your GAME do the talking!
EXACTLY omad!
Its all about business. Making money is the reason why these type of industry exists in the country. Why would they extend in the far side of the world if it would mean jeopardizing their business. This is exactly similar to outsourcing tactics in a manufacturing industry in MEPZ. Hiring a manpower agency saves alot of bucks than hiring people directly in the company. Its because they're paying only the basic salary. The company is not liable to pay the medical benefits, meal allowance, transpo allowance, etc.
But at least, the good side is that unemployment is somehow lessened.
poor filipinos but we have to move ON. let us continue living each day a special day not just for ourselves but to our society and families.
Exactly, but what i mean by "pay him like american agent" is to give him a rate thats commensurate to his true capabilities rather than his being a highschool/undergrad level. Like in US, there must be no discrimination as to educational attainment as long as he meet all requirements to be a call center agent. Grant him with equal employment opportunites as what americans are getting if you want quality outputs.Originally Posted by omad
