It would only prolong the war, and the inevitable...it wouldn't have ended in 1945, at that time Hitler's logical faculties were already severely deteriorating (he was imagining he still had non-existent forces!), and that actually paved the way for the allies' advance because he made a lot of strategic blunders.

So the issue is a simple one--the Allies have landed, and the Russians are marching their way westwards na during that time--if you don't cut their supply route (very difficult for Germans to do at the time because the Luftwaffe had been considerably weakened, and the Italians basically defected), they will just keep going until they reach the heart of Rhineland. If Hitler was assassinated, a new leadership would arise that would probably act in a more realistic manner against the allied onslaught. With better defense and better tactics, they could still prevent and push back the advance. But the lack of factories (heavy allied bombing put and end to that), fuel, and shortage of food, meant that they would still be crushed, but at a much later time. There could even be a truce period etc. etc.

I do admire Von Stauffenberg's bravery and recognize the validity of his intent, but as a realist, I don't think it would really helped much, or probably even prolonged the war (thus prolonging death and suffering) more.

yeah in some ways naa cguro truce..at the very first hitler's generals have always pleaded with him to delay an impending invasion against russia because of the possibility of a two front war and geographically speaking maglisod ang germany ug survive ana..I think the war would stop bro only if they killed off all of the key nazi cronies of hitler and not just hitler himself..and the Wermacht would probably take over and have a military government which probably will negotiate peace pero in my opinion the allies would want a total surrender and ambot lang pd sa mga russians if they'd accept the surrender pero if they do accept it..germany would be plunged into another shameful defeat and it's gonna be Treaty of Versailles part 2. much worse buk-on ang germany into independent country states..

if only he finished off a retreating british army during the battle at dunkirk..would it matter? kai sa akoang nabasahan he just let the british retreat..if he had annihilated at least mga 60% of the retreating troops this would weaken the brit army for sure and a fullblast advance like what they did in russia would surely pummel that brit isle..the brits are quite left without an ally to defend them and the US wasn't a full blown participant in the war

Yep. But the event (i.e. theoretical annihilation of B.E.F.) would only be useful, if Operation Sea Lion went ahead, but it didn't. If Sea Lion went ahead, it would've been disastrous for the Germans.

But, the Germans could've had a good chance provided that:

    a) The BEF was no more

    b) The Germans weren't prepping for Barbarossa (all forces concentrated on GBR)

    c) The Luftwaffe listened more to Galland and the younger officers rather than Goering (I hate that fat bastard).
