i think discrimination is too strong a word, 'coz when you say that you've been discriminated against, that means someone or some group of people has tried to prevent you or has actually prevented you from getting the things, the employment that you wanted or whatever, because of your ethnicity, age, religion and so forth. in your case, your being bisaya. and i don't think that's the case here at all. not a single filipino has ever violated any of my rights... my right to equal education, to equal opportunity, etc. sa ako lang hinuon experience ha, kato mga taga luzon, ma-tagalog ba o ma-ilokano, kataw-an dyud nila ang ako sinultian. and i'm sure tungod na's ato pinagahi, pinabundak nga accent, ug kana sad tendency nato mga bisaya nga ibalik-balik bitaw ang word pag mo-istorya ta. preha ana mangutana sila nako kun unsa ako gibuhat atong lugar na gisuroyan, nya motubag ko, "o wala lang... nag-enjoy-enjoy lang." kanang part nga "nag-enjoy-enjoy," kataw-an nila kay ngano gi-repeat daw ang word "enjoy." but i wouldn't consider their teasing my way of talking as discrimination. to me they're just being politically incorrect. and that political incorrectness could be unintentional. who knows, it could just be due to the fact that they're ignorant, uneducated or what have you. maybe magkinahanglan lang na sila ug multicultural exposure or maybe they could use some class on sensitivity. ako man sad, i've had my share of saying insensitive/politically incorrect things to people i hardly even know. i remember before i had this american classmate of pure irish descent and, without meaning to, i asked him if he liked to drink. st. patrick's day man to panahona pero wa dyud to nako tuyoa... seguro lang, deep in my subconscious mind was this stereotype of "the drunk irish." i felt really bad... maygani nalang wa to sya nasuko, kay naa raba dyuy ubang taw nga dali ra ma-offended. anyway basta di lang gud e-take personally ang comments sa ubang taw. but of course let's not forget that there'll always be those rude, insensitive individuals in our midst... bisa'g kapilaon pa ang sensitivity training or multiethnic exposure, naa dyud gyapoy uban taw nga consciously e-perpetuate dyud nila ang mga stereotype... apil na gud ana ang uban writers, producers, directors sa mga tv shows, etc. if we find their representations of us to be offensive, we're always free to complain. nya kun posible, basi'g puede na sila makasuhan. i don't know... for psychological damage? hehe... but seriously, i know nga ngil-ad dyud nang pag consciously perpetuate nila sa mga bisayan stereotypes sa tv, sa movies. ma-offended sad ko oi... pero di man tawn na discrimination. ang discrimination, based lagi na's mga prejudices, stereotypes and generalizations, but it's taken to a whole new level... to a level where people's rights actually get violated. dinha na ka dapat maka-claim ug discrimination kung klaro dyud nga di ka nila dawaton ug trabaho, internship, club membership o unsa ba, tungod lang kay bisaya ka.
