Xiu Jian (袖箭)- loosely translated "Sleeve Dart/Arrow". Modified from the Beinu (背弩) "back crossbow". The Xiujian is said to have emerged around 1000 AD, and is mainly used for assassinations. It is a spring-loaded weapon generally made up of copper or brass components.

The so-called beinu 背弩 "back crossbow" emerged around the Song dynasty, and xiujian 袖箭 "sleeve dart" should have been invented even later. It is rumored that the first creation of xiujian was done in 997-1022 by a taoist priest named Xiahe 霞鶴 , after discovering a blueprint within Zhuge's Jilunjing 機輪經 "Classic of Machines and Wheels". However, no authentic evidence that points to the existence of such book or xiujian before the Song dynasty can be found.
