Escudero: 7 opposition lawmakers face revamp

THE OPPOSITION bloc at the House of Representatives has softened its stand against members who did not support the impeachment bid against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as it decided on reorganization instead of expulsion among its ranks.

Emerging from a closed-door meeting on Wednesday, Minority Floor Leader Francis Escudero announced that seven members from the minority would be stripped of their posts from various committees as punishment.

But the move is seen as a softening on the part of the minority whose leadership, according to reports, had initially planned to expel some members who did not vote for Arroyo’s impeachment.

“It is the decision of the minority to implement a reorganization, the sole purpose of which is to consolidate and strengthen our ranks after the impeachment vote,” Escudero said in Filipino during a joint press conference with other members of the minority.

“There will be a revamp of their positions in the committee because there is no project that the minority can or cannot give. We can only implement a revamp in the committees to consolidate the minority,” Escudero said.

maybe so but another representative said otherwise:

"Iloilo Representative Rolex Suplico said they gave Escudero the blanket authority to do what he had to do.

“If there are changes that need to be enforced, the minority leader is mandated to do so because this is what we gave him as a sign of our trust in him. And henceforth, we will be closing ranks from now on. There will only be a united minority,” Suplico said in Filipino."

...but in any case, when a person in Escudero's stature saying "those who did not support the Impeachment should be expelled" or to that effect, then he should stand by his words and before we forget, HE is the minority leader. he already said "expelled" and now he is crawfishing saying they decided to "strip" or "re align".. not a very good sign of a leader in my opinion.

It is the decision of the minority to implement a reorganization....................

yup he is the minority leader.... he choose the consensus.... rather than expelling them( by saying he wants to expel those who didn't vote he already got his message across.... look at the reactions of those congressmen..... calling chiz "ungrateful and a coward"..... they really thought they would get expelled.... its a minds game....)

but he already knew there will be those that wouldn't come to vote......

but before WE forget, this topic is about CHIZ am I right? so whatever the decision of the minority after the fact is out of the question here. if CHIZ, being the minority leader, knew that decisions re this matter would be made by the minority as a whole; he should not have opened his yap and say "expel" even before a meeting was held. it's either he should have waited for the decision after the meeting before blurting out "expulsion" in the media OR stand by his words and expel those erring members. for me, either of the two should've been the right thing to do.

nahhh. you are just sad that Chiz did not implement the expulsion. Why? The opposition remain intact. The enemies of the opposition would be happy to see a fragmented group. Calling Escudero as "indecisive" because he opt for a moderate approach is a cheap spin.

"sayang, hindi nagkagulo ang opposition, whew."

that comment I made is not even about the opposition, never about the opposition.. please read it and understand it thoroughly. it's about the "CHARACTER" shown by CHIZ which is "INDECISIVENESS". we're talking about how Escudero reacted by back-pedalling on this issue, which gave all of us a preview of how he will act in the future when faced by obstacles far greater than what he is up right now.

    CHIZ = walay baruganan

    that's all I can say.

... and istoryador, why does it always have to be between opposition/administration with you? we're talking about one person here that is Francis Joseph Escudero. why do you ALWAYS have to drag other people, other issues to the said topic or to any other topic for that matter?

if CHIZ belonged to the administration and did the same thing, I'd have the same description of him which is "INDECISIVENESS". does that make my view more palatable to you? tsk tsk..

It is unfair to judge Chiz Escudero this early. Hay naku, hindi pa naman naging Senador si Chiz, sinisiraan na! Hahanapan talaga ng butas ang taong walang bahid.

For me, this is already a smear campaign. You cannot judge Escudero by this incident alone. Escudero listens. He listens to advices. When one listens to advices does it mean he is indecisive?
