What makes a good musician?

must have loads of influences, knows how to read notes, chops etc.
must have a heart. Don't play music that aint important to you coz it destroys your relationship to music okay

note-reading is not a must although it will greatly improve your chances at success... however, only a fraction of foreign and local acts you see on t.v. can read notes... i personally don't want to discourage would-be musicians to quit because they realized that they can't read notes... Note-reading is not as important as you think although, i still regret the fact that i didn't listen to my music teacher in elementary..

Bunalan kang Lapincao

hahaha.. maayo gani wala ko sa boys high nag elementary.. bunalan unta ko.. hehehe..

HA HA HA, abi nakog Boys' High sab ka nag Elementary. Sayang to sa Boys' High kay apil sa curriculum ang guitar playing... pero sus, gamay ra kaayo ang naay gitara. Kutob ra tawn mi sa recorder (gamay nga flute nga kawayan).
Nindot sab to sa una kang Lapincao kay nagtudlo siya ug scales... wala lang gyuy nag seryoso, igo ra gi memorize ang scales pero wala gi apply.
About 3 years ago I found out nga si Mr. Lapincao nag upload sa mp3.com. Christian songs iyang mga originals. Nindot lang gihapon ug tingog.

One must be open to different styles in order to expand one's knowledge on his instrument, right?

then comes practice, practice, practice, practice 1000x...
then comes experiences...

Dig, Dig, Dig! You are what you know! what's inside your head will distinguish you from everybody else... if you're content at listening to stuff that you hear on the radio, your chances at making it are significantly slim.. expand your musical vocabulary.. it's a must.. the most successful musicians are not necessarily the most technical.. but i'm pretty sure that they're the smartest..

a good ear is needed a one major point in being a good musician... doesnt matter if skills are low it'll develop/grow/improve just like all of us have been through
