GMA-7 fantaserye Darna continues to soar in the primetime race, consistently generating 40-plus ratings for the last three days, August 25 to 27. This is based on the latest overnight ratings of AGB Nielsen Phils. among Mega Manila households.

Kapuso network's primetime newscast 24 Oras and ABS-CBN drama series Tayong Dalawa are slugging it out for the second and third place.

The battle for rest of the Top 10 is wide open with the following shows going at it: GMA-7's Rosalinda, Adik Sa 'Yo, Survivor Philippines: Palau, and All My Life, and ABS-CBN's Dahil May Isang Ikaw, TV Patrol World. May Bukas Pa, and The Wedding.

Meanwhile, the daytime race is still topped by GMA-7's noontime show Eat Bulaga!, posting a rating as high as 30.6 percent.

Tatakbo Ka Ba this Sunday, Aug 30?

GMA Network initiates a grand pre-election activity that aims to promote clean and honest elections this Sunday, August 30, at The Bonifacio Global City.

Dubbed "Eleksyon 2010 na, Tatakbo Ka Ba?—Hamon Para sa Kaayusan ng Pilipinas," this run-for-a-cause has invited the 2010 presidential and vice presidential candidates to show their support for clean elections and good governance.

Kicking off with a 5km and 10km road race, around five thousand participants—including registered runners, incumbent politicians, sector leaders from the academe, media, telecommunications, and Kapuso celebrities—are expected to grace this groundbreaking event.

Perceived candidates for President, namely, Bayani Fernando, Eduardo "Bro. Eddie" Villanueva, Eduardo Panlilio, Francis Joseph "Chiz" Escudero, Gilbert "Gibo" Teodoro, Grace Padaca, Jamby Madrigal, Jejomar "Jojo" Binay, John Carlos "JC" delos Reyes, Joseph "Erap" Estrada, Loren Legarda, Manuel "Manny" Villar, Manuel "Mar" Roxas, Manuel "Noli" de Castro, Mike Velarde, Nicanor "Nikki" Perlas, Richard "Dick" Gordon; and for Vice-President, namely, Kiko Pangilinan, Noynoy Aquino, and Reynaldo Puno will be asked to formally commit to clean and honest elections in an oath taking ceremony to be presided by Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman Jose Melo.

A ceremonial walk along a path lined with pictures that depict significant points in the Philippines' struggle for democracy will jumpstart the main program, which will run simultaneously with the road race.

The vow of presidential and vice presidential aspirants will be documented in a notarized, sworn-in statement. "This is a unique, ambitious and meaningful activity. The title can be taken figuratively. Will the Filipinos run for peace? Justice? Good leadership? Tatakbo Ka Ba para sa kapakanan ng Pilipinas?" said GMA VP for News Programs Jessica Soho in anticipation of the event.

Adds GMA AVP for Alternative Platforms Leorgarda Sanchez-Matias, who's responsible for the concept of this run, "The run is also a great equalizer. You can have captains of industries running side by side with the youth, families and common 'mamamayan' all for one cause. Runners are also very passionate about their causes."

GMA Network Chairman, President, and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon, GMA Network EVP and Chief Operating Officer Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr. with GMA network officers, Smart/PLDT Chairman Manuel Pangilinan, Smart/PLDT President and CEO Napoleon Nazareno, Catholic Media Network President Fr. Francis Lucas, Youth Vote Philippines Lead Convener Nathalie Jorge, Institute for Political and Electoral Reform Executive Director Mon Casiple, Ateneo School of Government Associate Dean Dennis Gonzales, PhD, will grace the event this weekend.

At the forefront of the program are GMA News and Public Affairs' pillars Mel Tiangco, Jessica Soho, Arnold Clavio, Vicky Morales and Mike Enriquez.

Kapuso stars Regine Velasquez, Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes, Richard Gutierrez, pop diva Kuh Ledesma, boxing champion Nonito Donaire, Jr., and other big GMA celebrities will also support the cause.

Ten signature walls around the venue will be set up as freedom boards, where participants can write messages relating to the 2010 elections and messages for the candidates and the next administration.

According to SVP for News and Public Affairs Marissa Flores, "Eleksyon 2010 na... Tatakbo ka Ba? officially kicks off GMA's Eleksyon 2010 coverage. "This event is a preview of what we envision our election coverage to be—high-impact, empowering, and in line with Serbisyong Totoo, always fair, balanced and responsible," said Flores.

A new telenovela to watch out for...stairway to heaven

Jean Garcia plays her meanest role ever in Stairway To Heaven

Muli na namang kaiinisan si Jean Garcia sa role niya bilang Maita sa upcoming drama series ng GMA-7 na Stairway To Heaven. Gaganap siya rito bilang stepmother ni Jodi (na gagampanan ni Rhian Ramos) at matindi raw ang pagpapahirap na gagawin niya sa mga tauhan ng bagong telenovela na ito na hango sa isang sikat na Koreanovela.

Sabi ni Jean sa PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal), nakikita na raw niya kung paano magre-react ang mga manonood sa mga gagawin niya sa series. Hindi lang daw pagtataray ang gagawin niya kundi mananakit pa siya nang pisikal dito.

"Kaya feeling ko, hindi na ako makakalabas ng bahay ko kapag naipalabas na itong Stairway To Heaven!" natatawang sabi ni Jean. "Super maldita talaga ako dito. At nananakit ako, ha! Hindi lang si Jodi ang sasaktan ko kundi halos lahat ng mga tao sa series ay makakatikim sa akin. Kaya scared na ako sa magiging reaction ng mga manonood sa series namin."

Itong role daw na Maita ang pinakamabigat na role niya kumpara sa mga naibigay na sa kanya ng GMA-7 gaya ng Majika, Atlantika, Impostora, La Vendetta, Dyesebel at All About Eve.

"Noong pinanood ko nga yung Koreanovela, totoo nga namang ang sama-sama ng role ko dun. So, kailangan higitan ko raw 'yon. Hindi ba, ang mga soap drama natin, e, iyakan at sakitan to the max? Gano'n daw dapat kaya kinakabahan na ako. Kasi baka this time, magalit na ang taong-bayan sa akin! Pero isipin lang nila na acting ang lahat. Trabaho lang po ito at walang personalan. Inuutusan lang po ako ng director ko [Joyce Bernal], or else wala akong trabaho!" tawa ni Jean.

Bukod kay Rhian, makakasama rin ni Jean sa Stairway To Heaven sina Dingdong Dantes, TJ Trinidad at Glaiza de Castro.

JENNICA AND MART. Ano naman ang komento niya sa balitang liligawan daw ulit ni Mart Escudero ang anak niyang si Jennica Garcia?

"Naku, ayokong magsalita tungkol diyan at baka pagalitan ako ng anak ko!" tawa niya. "Hindi ba, ako ang nanay na natatakot sa kanyang anak kasi napakatsismosa ko! Sa balitang 'yan, si Jennica na lang ang sasagot. She's the best person to ask that. Ako, ina lang ako na gusto lang ang magandang mga bagay para sa kanyang anak."

Kung sakali ngang totoo, pabor ba siya na maging sina Jennica at Mart ulit?

"Kung saan happy si Jennica, magiging happy din ako," sagot ni Jean. "Kahit naman sinong magulang, ang gusto ay ang kaligayahan at kaligtasan ng kanyang anak, di ba? If Jen feels na puwede pa sila ni Mart, then go, di ba? It's her decision. Ngayon, kung ayaw niya, then decision pa rin niya 'yon."
