Yes..."Dokken" is the best during the 80's...too bad Don Dokken cant sing thier song no more the way he use to.

My favorite is "Whitesnake" and Dave Coverdale still hitting the vocal after 3 decades

i agree bro drux, seemingly don dokken's singing voice has lost it's edge over the years...don's singing prowess was at its peak in the tooth & nail and under lock & key albums...from 'shadow life' thru 'hell to pay', don's voice mellowed noticably... even in 'lightning strikes again', dokken's 2007 release, we see the voice really has lost much of its steam...

whitesnake...the immortal power blues balladier...one of my own all time favorites too...david coverdale never ceases to amaze me...what with an illustrious career spanning well over (you said it bro) 3 decades, 17 albums, 5 major personnel changes, & 3 larynx operations, mr. coverdale certainly holds a proud head upon his shoulders & the everlasting trademark raspy. bluesy, ballsy vocal chops that goes with it...

whitesnake has been born, reborn, & resurrected so many times yet it has remained true to its genuine hardrock calling...with an impressive list of master musicians who collaborated with david coverdale through the years, to mention the geniuses of john sykes, adrian vandenberg, steve vai, among the rest...

    whitesnake, we salute you!!!...

just came back from my childhood hometown. slight problem internet there unfortunately. now where were we man.. whitesnake is cool, check that movie old school by luke wilson features here i go again.. when i was younger, i never had an idea on what drop d is all about, some guitarist do this to get heavier sound. for me black sabbath into the void, ratt lay it down and unchained by van halen are the coolest drop d songs. george lynch if im not mistaken never drop his tunings. there this angus young that until now, he still sounds the same but its cool for me. back in black is a blast. bro i wonder if u played in a band before.. what was your band name? i guess gamay ra to glam fans at nga time except your close friends. me i was in a band before, we named ourselves tyrant. by the way theres a local band ive heared named also tyrant, they do metal songs.. many years ago i played 2nd guitar. we play gnr, yngwie, white lion, winger, poison and some glam. i just do rhythm and keeping my eyes on the lead guitarist wishing that its me playing solo..in fact i still got pictures of us performing.. let see those gears of yours man.. dont hide them

yah! i use drop d tuning too on my gits... i guess i got it from playing van halen... dropping your tuning by two whole notes really does make your sound heavier, because of the deeper bass end, but if your not careful you'd end up with messy sound...drop d also allows deeper string bends, & makes it alot easier to squeeze out meatier harmonics...however it lessens power in muted bass notes...but that's ok with me...i'm a drop d tuning kinda guy...lynch used drop d tuning in his solo release...

my band's name was exodus, & we played van halen, dokken, priest, sabbath, dio, ozzy, msg...i played only 1 yjm song -disciples of hell...in our time hair bands ruled supreme...

in due time bro, we'll be jamming our guts out...so just hang on in there...and keep on rockin!!!...

jamesP and jamesM...i've got a question for you....what do you think of dokken's new release 'lightning strikes again'? have you heard of his new guitarist jon levin? i'm not a guitarist, just an 80's metal fan, and i think levin's playing is similar to lynch...what do u think?

  8. #58
i agree bro berserker...levin's git playing really molds itself into the likeness of lynch's style...a very close clone of george's chops...from what i know, during the auditions don, mick, & jeff unanimously voted jon in as heir apparent to george's throne as main axeman after commenting during his interview," rockin' rhymes with dokken'"...

but as they say, "there's nothing quite like the real thing"... lynch is king!!!....hehe...

berserker bro i got no idea on album lightning strikes again. i think its a title track from the 1985 album under lock & key. i agree lynch has more riffs during his dokken heptic schedule..
exodus was the name of kirk hammett's first band before joining metallica in april of 1983. thats the time dave mustaine was fired then formed megadeth. anyways performing a judas priest song is rare. i never heared of any band performing glen tipton & kk downing riffs. that band kicks me when i was younger. stained class, sin after sin, british steel, screaming for vengeance, painkiller and defenders of the faith are the albums that i wanna crank up.. by the way bro if im not mistaken, you named your kids after your glam hair bands icon am i right? yes wel keep on riffing & keep hanging on, hanging on through the night. its so easy to forget..what you give is what you get..

lightning strikes again is dokken's 2008 album...line-up : don on throat, barry sparks on low end axe, mick brown on skins, & jon levin on lead axe...

indeed it's very rare to hear bands playing priest nowadays, most likely local bands now maybe even have never heard about priest or any other metal bands at about the same period - the 80s. my band & i played gigs, mostly campus concerts & fund raisers, during that time too...oops...there goes my secret...hehe...

i bet you never heard any band playing van halen either bro...hehe...well now you know...we were there before you guys...just yesterday i hearing someone yoller "van halen!!", much to my sweet surprise it was an old acquaintance from days of yore...rockers never die man...they just fade away...

as the years catch up to a rocker, the way you percieve of glory changes...no longer is that craving to show to the world everything you've got...somehow it leaves you...what is left is your undying passion for your craft...& a relentless propensity to keep on pushing yourself to your limits...& to reward yourself not with cheers from the crowd...but with a silent affirmation to yourself to know what you're really made of...

and no bro, i did not name my child after my rock icons...hehe...i named him after a secret agent...i bet your pops named you after his metal heroes...am i right?...rock hard ride free!!!...
