@tamblot: that we be good for those user(s) who leaves their pc for long time..... Just to save electricity hd's eats about 20w+ of power..... turning it off while the rest is on will cut off 20w of electricity consumed.

I dont do that..... Instead i will shut off my computer in "hibernate" mode..... in that way your pc will start faster... and i think more electricity is saved.

no for HDDs, yes for monitor, etc.

in fact, the fewer "start-stop cycles" a hard disk makes, the longer its life. that's why HDDs used in server CPU's that run continuously 24-hours a day, seven days a week, etc. tend to have a longer service life than HDDs used in desktops.

the Head Assembly of HDDs is very sensitive to mechanical stress resulting from start-stop cycles, and this explains why u get more service life out of ur HDD if u try to minimize starting-stopping. Â*
