If only the advancement in graphics card technology also mean advancement in power usage. Sa pagkakaron nagkadako ang power consumption although higher performance per watt compared to the previous generations. But still not that significant a change in power consumption.

it's already a huge improvement, check gtx 285 tri sli vs 5870 tri fire and you will see my point

and also check IDLE wattage on both of them.

see the huge improvement in power consumption.

yeah i know but still for example 300watt++(for one card) on full load dako guihapon.
But the technology is going there as the die size shrink even more, power consumption goes down and performance goes up. ATI has done a good significant change guid sa ilang cards power consumption especially when idle.

true true, i love ati how they improve the idle wattage consumption

    ATI 5870 = 27 idle watt
    GTX 285 = 200+ idle watt..

    ouch

I share the same sentiments also.

I find it ridiculous to see how big videocards are getting. Reminds me of katong P4 era where Intel was trying to push as much Ghz into their chips regardless of the power and heat they produced.

It feels like the engineers are too lazy to design efficient ways around the problem and instead try to solve it by brute force. This resulted in processors that needed giant cpu coolers to work properly and Intel even tried to revise the Cases by introducing BTX to better cool their processors.

Sa videocard side naman, result of brute force design is people having to buy huge 1K Watt power supplies and have cases that can accomodate 10-12+ inch cards.

I miss those times where a videocard would just take up 1 slot. Things are supposed to get smaller and smaller with their die shrinks and cases are supposed to take up less and less space... pero It seems like the opposite is happening... Dapat a 300W Psu should be able to handle a single card while a 500w psu should be able to handle 2-4 cards.

I dont understand the logic of spending extra for a high wattage psu just because the videocard is too badly engineered to be efficient enough to make do with a 300-500W.

One culprit ani is the way reviewers rate the products... they should not just focus on raw performance numbers but also give points to efficient designs and low-rank monster cards that suck up too much power.

If this were equated with the car industry, they should not just judge them by their top speed and acceleration but also for their fuel consumption....

Mahal biya kaayo atong kuryente diri sa Pinas.... overall value should be determined based on the running cost of the card (and the additional accessories needed to run it) aside from the initial purchase cost.
