gtx has 20% difference of performance compared to 4870 1gb. the price is more than 20% difference though. So NVidia is still more expensive, more expensive comparing to the performance you gain over 4870 1gb.
4890 is about $250-$260 newegg price range Newegg.com - 4890 while
GTX285 is in the $339-$350 newegg price range. Newegg.com - gtx285
Performance difference is close to nil. sometimes the 4890 is faster than GTX285

Gtx 275 is the counterpart for Ati's 4890 and they are priced at the same level and I think that ATI has no answer for GTX 285 yet that is available in the market that I know of but I would be happy to be corrected...and don't flame me

hmmm as for marketing strategy ATI is not aiming for the fastest card ilang aim is to dominate the midrange sector because diha kaayo ang pinaka dako og percentage mao na na wala sila mo tugbang sa high end cards sa nvidia gyud unsaon man ng high end kaayo if ang mahalin is pirting gamaya then dako og gasto pagama
tan awa ron o limited na ang numbers of 295 gi produce sa nvidia nakat on na sila sa ila sayop sauna

Wow in this review the 4890 absolutely stumps the 285. What gives? I thought the 4890 was only slightly better than the 4870 which is the same or equal to a gtx260.

wow, that's impressive performance of 4890 results from firing squad...guess I was wrong and reading from a different review then hehe.... I could care less about which company makes the most sales because the sole reason I bought their product is not to make them happy by making them on the top spot. I'd rather be the one happy with my purchase

Sakto, go with the card that you think will make you happy with your purchase may it be 4870 or GTX285.

found a nice review of physx. so far only mirror's edge has the best feature using it.

my vote goes to 4870 (or gtx 260 core216),
gamay na lang gyud kulang, i could buy 2 video cards.
