It's very simple..."wala ni dako and rally kay dli dako ang issue, how's that?"

"Big rallies are the instrument why Marcos and Erap where ousted... did we blame this rallies?" <--No, not at all.....because ithas more issue and past rallies, those are called "real rally for masses" not for personal interest of politics.

And oh, you might forgot that majority of the people now are getting smart so that's why they don't join yelling and shouting in the streets anymore..because they know that it's all not about principle to fight for, it's all about politicians who are so hungry to get something out of government...

    peace!!!

It depends if the issue is worth fighting for. In Cebu setting, would the ouster of Arroyo brought more glory to Cebu. Just be honest in observation, the construction sector is booming, more BPOs, call centers, and other outsourcing businesses are establishing here, hotels are rising (like Club Ultima, the one near UC, and another 5 star hotel in Mactan, also the closed Cebu Plaza will soon be reopened) with the anticipation on the influx of foreign tourists, and the mining sector are searching for oil and other minerals which is a big boost for this country and to counter the rising price of oil (which is dictated by the WORLD MARKET and not of Gloria's terms). Tell me again, are these manifestations of a weakening economy?

For what exact reason are you fighting for? For a clean election that should have been won (according to the opposition) by an inexperienced actor who solely rely on his fame and backed by the minions of Marcos and Estrada? I just wonder if Fernando Poe, Jr. is the one running this country. Will there be rallies? Probably, people have insatiable appetite to search for any weaknesses and longing for an ultimate super president who is a know-it-all and can solve all problems in this country no matter how small or big it is. Some people who also have the passion to throw muds at any leader, who neither suggest for an alternate solution, but would rather immediately call for a resignation. Some of them don't have the right (though it is in the consititution the freedom of expression) simply because they don't even pay the tax. People who are working in this country and have contributed their share should the right voices to be heard and not for "bayarans" as what was exposed by the media. Is Gloria Arroyo a perfect leader? Definitely no, but I'm pretty sure she is better than FPJ. Is her economic policies the best? No, but very much passable (our GNP have improved) though still there are much work to be done. Would I join this rallies? Definitely no, the premise for her ouster is not worth of my time, I would rather spend my time in my work and contributing positively to the country's economy. By the way, I did not vote for Arroyo but on Roco, just an objective observation.

in short it's not about moral ascendency that you claim is the cause of the big rallies... it's still about who is the person and how it affect you personally... in short PERSONAL gihapon.

Marcos even if he had declared Martial Law... it took 20 years b4 he was thrown out, y because he is brilliant, even if daghan na kaau og ebidensiya kong gi-onsa niya pag-abusar ang balaod... hala ok ra, for as long as wala mi na-apiktohan. k lang...

imagine it took 20 years b4 the people finally woke up from Marcos Bagong Lipunan palami.Â* Because he was so brilliant...

For what exact reason are you fighting for?
the reason that all officials should be accountable even if you are the highest official of the land... that power should not abuse for their own use.

sometimes there is a woman behind every man's failure..and in the case of Marcos it was Imelda who cause his downfall..she tends to be very glamorous and extravagant when majority of the Filipino people were broke and starving..these preludes the sprouting of revolutionary groups and rallys in every part of the country..

the scenario nowadays is different..a small bunch of people are staging rallys with no determined/apparent CAUSE..Indeed GMA made a mistake but she is sorry for it, and already made a public apology..for me, instead of chanting their lungs out in deposing the current administration, why dont they resort to a legal/constitutional means?!.one thing is for sure's they are not deprive of it unlike in the Marcos regime..

although this is a free country but i think they are not entitled to use this premise anymore when what they are doing are pestering other citizens lives by dragging the economy to their whim!

sorry but yes, most people who join the rallies (here in manila) are of no principle. their main purpose of shouting (words that weren't prepared by them) was to get a piece of paper that says they can claim 300 pesos at the makati city hall.

i can see the bitterness in some people, with all the ventures they make but still unable to get what they want - a better government - something all of us Filipinos share.

if spending my time working to earn and feed my family in a decent way instead of shouting at the streets can't be accepted as a principle, then i really can't understand how a state could stand if all its constituents are just as hot-tempered as these rallyists.

for the people who thinks that rallies are the answer, then go leave the forum, stop bitching about other people's thoughts and do your part in rally.

i applaud the rebels who had principles but do principles only limit to rebels?
i envy them for such bravery but have they succeeded?
short-term, probably, but the long-term goal which is to promote a good government (composed of the citizens) lies in the hands of each man and of the "little things" he does..if only each of us will stop blaming other people and start within ourselves...

    amen.

Imports down 3.1% in July as chip parts purchases fall

    Wednesday, 09 28, 2005

Import payments in July dropped 3.1 percent from a year earlier to $3.64 billion due to a sharp fall in purchases of electronics components, breaking three consecutive months of increases, National Statistics Office (NSO) data released yesterday showed.

Electronics parts, crucial for the country's own exports of finished electronic products, fell 11.2 percent to $1.7 billion, accounting for 46.6 percent of the July bill.

For the seven months to July, total imports were down 1.7 percent to $25.17 billion.

The country posted a trade deficit in July of $182 million, down from a deficit of $652 million a year earlier.

This brought the deficit to $2.27 billion for the first seven months, narrower than the year-earlier $3.71 billion.

The NSO previously reported that exports in July rose 11.4 percent year-on-year to $3.46 billion.

The July trade data are preliminary, the NSO said. It revised the figure for imports in June to $3.78 billion from the earlier reported $4 billion.

The fall in imports suggests the country may have to step up investment to spur faster growth in the second half, economists said. As imports mainly comprise raw materials for goods later sold abroad, the trend in imports is usually a leading indicator of the nation's export performance.

Exports, the bulk of which is electronics products, are a major driver of the economy.

Imports of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, the country's second-biggest imports for the month, rose 16 percent on year to $412.2 million after increasing 26 percent in June.

Economists said higher oil prices may have triggered a decline in the volume of oil purchased by the country, as has been the case elsewhere around the region.

Soaring oil prices and expectations of a slowdown in global demand may have also undermined domestic consumption, economists added.

The July import data spurred little reaction in the local financial market, which is focused on other issues. The peso closed at P56.295 per dollar, weaker from P56.270 Monday on the US dollars broad strength against regional currencies, while the 30-company stock market index ended up 1.5 percent to 1984.49 points as investors responded to positive earnings expectations for blue chip companies.

The government targets gross domestic product growth of 5.3 percent this year and it expects exports to rise 8 percent and imports to expand 10 percent, but these targets have become difficult to achieve, economists said.

“While we've seen countries like China being a magnet for new investment, the Philippines continues at this juncture not to see that kind of growth in investment and capacity,” Song Seng Wun said, a regional economist at GK Goh in Singapore. “Going forward, we may find the Philippines still lagging behind in terms of the regional growth,” he said.
The progress under GMA is just an illusion, a daydream. The GMA government tried everything to lie about the economy. Mangarap ka GMA. I will always pray for the downfall of your evil government.
