based on my experience if you run an electronics device with high heat issue it tells that there is something wrong with the circuit designed..murag mao ni blema sa AMD...IMO
i disagree with this... my athlon x2 6000 runs really hot even with its nice looking heatsink(murag highend heatsink ang stock) compared with my core2duos and pentium dual cores. i havent recorded its temps but if i compare it by touch, i can feel the big difference. plus if you compare their heatsinks, new intel procs have small heatsinks while amd have big and hi end looking. this means that amd procs are producing more heat because it needs bigger heatsinks to stabilize its temperature.
^^ I just finished the first out of my 3 AMD rigs. The finished one is using an x3 720 BE. It's currently running 100% fine. I will try and post the temps tonight. My hsf is a 120mm Sunbeamtech Core-contact Freezer.
Daghan man pud factors that causes overheating. We users sometimes blame it on chip, but the truth is naa pud ta sayop. Thermal paste not properly applied and inadequate cooling are the major reasons for overheating. I was able to own both intel and amd procies, and sa ako observation my Pentium Dual Core E5200 2,5ghz which was overclocked at 3,7ghz runs hotter than my current unlocked Phenom FX Quad 2,2ghz~3ghz. Idling at 39c, 33c and load temps at 70c, 53c respectively. Both sporting the 45nm SOI btw. Same cooler and case and almost the same voltage. Thermal paste reapplied a number of times.

Sempron Guy is right, new AMD chips now are not as hot as before. we have the same processor and OC to 3.3 GHZ from 2.2 GHz which is 50% OCed and guess what i got a 33°C idle and 50°C load on air with a cheap but high performance CM Hyper 212+ HSF...
here's a screenshot if you have doubt
running at stock, 39°C at full load. i'll be testing @ 3.3 GHz OC after my class and i'll post the temperature here.

yes its a 90nm but it also happened to a phenom x4 9600 a 65nm which i recommended to my friend because i thought that amd has solved its heat issues. we brought it from a fellow istoryan, lunch. it runs hot during gameplay unlike my core2duo e6600. after that experience, i sold my athlon x2 6000 and used intels only on all my pcs.
