ganahan sad gani unta ko mag SSD pero the price, man! i just can't get myself to spend that much.

its all good br0, the beauty of technology... only gets better, faster, smaller, cheaper. wait for SSDs to go mainstream and like tech always does, it will get cheaper and prolly by then they'll have 1tb SSD available wif better write speeds using SF Controllers.

@boss glide, mao ni problemo ron sa ssd if raid 0 di pwede ma Trim if e OS nimo.

    Example:

OS is installed on Raid 0 - 2x Intel X-25m's, you can't TRIM.
OS is installed on 1x Intel X-25m's you can TRIM.

1 SSD is enough, but if you don't mind reinstalling OS for Trimming issues with 2 SSD's w/ Raid 0 then go for it. For now i would spend just 1 SSD, and spend it on other hardware

been using one for more than a year now unya ok. faster boot up and seek time +1. although i think i screwed around with it and seek time got a little bit longer ... but still faster than my previous hdd. just my two cents worth ...

    here's a good post =p

IMO, the X25-M is a great value, but I doubt there is much to gain from using RAID0; you can see benchmarks here(Intel X25-M G2 SSD RAID Benchmarksymakergroup - Bloggone we love our tech). The big gain of RAID0 is sequential read/write, but that has never been a BIG gain for SSD, the benefit of SSD are random read/write and, and you can see from the benchmark on 4K random read/write, RAID0 worsen things because the RAID0 "processing" adds latency which is supposed to be the strength of SSDs. So basically you would be replacing a 2 lane 60mph highway by a 4 lane 40mph road ... in theory more people can travel, but for a single car it only means longer travel time.

So my question is: why RAID0?

oh and still no TRIM for Raid0.

look at the 'sequencial' benchmarks in the link you posted andz - ssd's trumps the velociraptor. I don't know what you are saying exactly reading those benchmarks.

Anyway, i'm not here to argue or try to justify spending so much for an ssd now. We cant deny though that this IS the future and sooner or later SSD's will be a part of every system build. Like casette tapes, VHS video, etc etc... hdd will be replaced by these.

RAID0 - because people can, and appreciate the benefits of it.

Oh and TRIM for RAID0 will come, or be it in a different form like in the link i posted above, (2 ssd's on a pci/e slot). I am sure they will come up with something to get these to perform at their best potential in RAID.

hi boss gal, nahan lang ko share maybe nay naka try na ani. mao ni gamit sa kung migo taga manila. dako gyud kayo yang gains daw, hehe wapa sad nako na try. here is the link

Wala man ko nag argue =p i didn't even make that post, its one of the paragraphs in one the ssd reviews.
I think sa newegg to, still a nice debate, in another point of view like video cards. Its like people going triple video cards vs a single video card. More performance gains, more electricity bills.

SSD's are nice but expensive, Raid 0 is worth going for when Trim starts to work with Raid 0. I personally would buy and have myself a Raid fest when Trim works.

But for the moment its better to just buy 1. Then buy a 2nd one after Trim works. because? There might be no way to make Trim work with the current SSD's on Raid 0. We might need to buy a new SSD to make trim work w/ Raid 0. Wala ta kbaw we might need to buy a new ssd like an "X-26" to make Raid 0 work .

of course opinion ra ni nako. haha hopefully ssds in raid 0 will work with trim in the next firmwire update (HOPE HOPE). kay huge kaau ang tabang sa trim.

oli and andz, i appreciate the input. There is much to learn here still and to be honest, i have'nt had the chance to really sus these drives out yet. The link you posted (oli) was a good read also - no have'nt tried that but really looks to be a "must have". Let us know if you get to try it.
I hope we would not need these sort of third party apps in the future to maximize ssd's potential and instead have windows do it all within the OS itself.

Andz - Point taken and agree that 1 ssd is probably the best bet for now. Gains are noticeable enough with just 1 so i'm more than happy. As for decrease in speeds and degredation of the drives - we will see, time will tell.

I've just installed a fresh copy of win7 (again - probably the 5th time) and i'm noticing that it now takes 20-21min instead of the 15-16min the first time. SO what does that mean actually?? hmmm.

I really need to do more reading on this and at the same time hoping to get hard facts from actual users on here - hence this thread.

Poldopunk if you are there - you are the first person i thought of that would give these babies a good run through and really see what they're about. I'm even thinking of lending this to you. lol
