    Some online gamers told me that the next game of the Elder Scroll series - most likely Elder Scrolls V - will be announced later this year. I don't expect it to be released within this current console generation though.

    Meanwhile, TeamXbox revealed two WRPGs on the top five of its Top 10 Xbox 360 Games of 2010 special. Guess which RPGs are those?

    RPGamer.com, a site that built its large and loyal following with its coverage of mostly JRPGs, actually likes Mass Effect 2.

    I loved the story in Mass Effect, and it only appears to have been improved upon in the sequel. Storytelling is now more organic in Mass Effect 2, but also more dynamic. Rather than going from story segment to combat segment and back again, Mass Effect 2 naturally transitions between these segments. Quick-time button events may pop up during conversations, enabling you to save a dying soldier and such, but you can miss them if you're not quick enough. Characters feel more lifelike through active camera use, different staging during cutscenes, and prettier graphics. In other words, the best part of the first game may have gotten even better. Every single story choice made in the first game can be directly loaded into Mass Effect 2 to boot.

    Meanwhile, RPGfan.com wrote something about JRPGs

    One trait that made me love Anachronox so much was that though it played like a Japanese RPG, the storyline, character archetypes, writing, and visual style were distinctly American. In these key areas, Anachronox did not try to copy or emulate Japanese conventions, making the experience feel genuine rather than being the equivalent of that "weeaboo" kid in school who acts like an anime character in order to "become" Japanese.

    I am sure there are scenario writers who love JRPGs, but are tired of JRPG character relationships never going beyond the level of superficial kindergarten crushes. I would like to see them write a script where the character relationships are more fleshed out, mature, and believable, with teenage and/or adult characters that speak and behave like believable teenagers and/or adults respectively.

    For me, the one thing I don't like most about JRGPs is the fact that almost all cast look like a member of a boyband, that most characters look alike just a different hair, color, clothes but when you remove them all they all look the same like a barbie doll, and also over sized swords wielded and swung aroung one-handed by a fashionista and not to mention skinny chic. oh i forgot to mention the light effects.

    The bishonen/metrosexual look should be trashed. Any game that shows its human characters in 3D should have realistic models instead of those anime-like models.

    Just look how pathetic these characters were designed

    JRPG... One thing is for sure is I'm an old school RPG player nya I grew up with old school JRPGs...

    Naa may daghan sad na nindot na WRPGs pero my heart still goes for JRPGs. I think ga apas2x raman sad sila sa mga graphic quality nila og ang para gameplay. Ang storyline... well, it will still depend on the region sad... Lahi2x raba og style ang para sa West og lahi sad sa Japan. Ah well, basta that was my 2 centavos... XD

    Ubisoft's major RPG in development?

    Last month Ubisoft revealed that they wanted to break the Japanese market with a major RPG "on the same level as Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest" - It seems that that plan is in action already.

    Speaking to French site GameKult (we've translated it, thanks to Google), CEO of Ubisoft France Geoffroy Sardin has revealed that they are working "on this particular universe" In full, he said;

    "And we have a number of announcements during 2010 to give this universe then. Then we want to build on games RPG and we are working on this particular universe in the studio Blue Byte Software in China but also in our studio in Shanghai. That's all I can say."

    So with Square Enix possibly ready to let the Final Fantasy franchise go, could we see an instant replacement? We look forward to seeing what Ubisoft has to offer us in the future regarding RPG's.

    Are PS3 gamers here excited about Star Ocean: The Last Hope and White Knight Chronicles?

    On the 360, the most awaited RPG of this year (according to TeamXbox.com) is all set for release next week - Mass Effect 2.
