We have too many damned Congressmen and Senators already we do not need more, regardless of whether they represent gays, retarded people, whores or dwarves like PGMA...

Kalma bro .. pero sa tinuod lang, down with the Party List Groups! Charter Change aron matangtang ni nga provision .. Their representations of the said groups are a redundancy of the duties of each district representative in the congress! Pwede man na ba nga ma protektahan ilang interests but not in the congress .. tan-awa ang mga left leaning party lists, kaniadto, rally didto, rally dinhi against pork barrel .. times have changed: apil na sila sa grupo nga dili ipatangtang ang pork barrel! haha .. serious ni sila?

Duterte backs Ang Ladlad vs Comelec

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte came to the rescue of the gay group seeking party-list representation in the House of Representatives.

This was after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) denied its petition saying there are already enough gay and lesbians in Congress.

Duterte said on Sunday the statement made by Comelec Commissioner Nicodemo Ferrer claiming that Ladlad gay group is no longer needed because Congress already awash with homosexuals is "bigotry to the highest order."

"That statement is a bigotry to the highest order. You cannot deny representation of any group. Who are you to deny them. That's prejudice. Kung gusto sa Pilipino na punuon ug bayot ang Congress so be it," Duterte said.

The mayor said gays are very much useful to the society and should not be discriminated simply because of their sexual preference.

"For as long as me utok ka and you have the capability to lead. Daghang bayot sa kalibutan. Kanang inyong mga asawa na gusto magpagwapa adto man nag bayot. So ibig sabihin kinahanglan ninyo ug bayot," the city mayor said matter-of-factly.

"Ako wala gyud koy problema. Nagahalok kog babae, lalaki ug bayot. I do not discriminate against my fellowmen," he added.

"That's not a good policy of the government. Dili gyud pwede mamili. That's embodied in the freedom of expression. Ma-TKO mo ana," Duterte warned.

The mayor urged Ang Ladlad to file a case before the Supreme Court. He said if he is only a practicing lawyer at the moment, he would have offered his services to the gay group.

"I'm very much willing to handle a case to be filed before the Supreme Court. I think they should go to the SC (Supreme Court) and seek a ruling there. Swerte lang mo kay kung nabayot ko, ako gyud mag-una ug protesta. Unya karon kung bayot diay ko, unsaon man nato na," Duterte said. (BOT)

IT is a constitutional body entrusted with enforcing electoral laws but it has conveniently neglected to clarify such legal issues as what constitutes early campaigning and overspending.

It is now warning would-be candidates against early campaigning and overspending yet these have been going on for some time now with the Comelec doing nothing about them.

Instead, it has denied a group its constitutional rights by ruling that it is fighting for a cause that endangers the faith and morals of the young. I almost could not believe my eyes when I read that the Comelec has refused on moral grounds to accredit Ang Ladlad as a party list of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender persons (LGBT).

As far as the COMELEC decision is considered, it is already discriminatory. Not to mention bone-headed. It does not reflect the belief of society at large that homosexuality per se is not immoral. But then again, Comelec commissioners can have a distorted sense of reality. Take vote counts, for one. Ilang ihap layo ra sa tinuod.

I have to commend the way Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez is handling the situation though. It's pretty clear that personally he does not agree with the decision made by the old fogey commissioners. But he said, in his usual calm and articulate manner, that the decision has been "institutionalized" but may still be reconsidered. (Institutionalized? How about institutionalizing those commissioners?)

Contrast that with the highly facetious and idiotic comment made by Commissioner Nicodemus Ferrer (one of the three commissioners who penned the decision denying Ladlad party list representation) that LGBTs are neither marginalized nor underrepresented because there are a lot of homosexuals in congress.

Ladlad head Danton Remoto was a professor at our university. He was obviously and quite openly gay but was clearly well respected and highly regarded by students and peer teachers alike.

i think it would have been better if the comelec denied ladlad base on other thing like they are not marginalized rather than morality...

we have women interest groups as partylist in congress why not third *** interest groups?

they might push for additional cr in public places... or anti-discrimination act againt member of the third ***...

or push for common law partnership between gays and lesbians although not marriage...
