Gelli de Belen affirms loyalty to the Kapuso network even after getting Boy Abunda as new manager
Actress-TV host Gelli de Belen denied rumors that SiS—the morning television talk show she's hosting together with sister Janice de Belen and good friend Carmina Villarroel—will soon bid its loyal viewers goodbye after years of providing early-morning entertainment.
Speculations inside the entertainment industry intensified after Carmina appeared on GMA-7's rival station, ABS-CBN's longest running drama anthology series Maalaala Mo Kaya in one of its episode titled "Reseta" and on showbiz talk show The Buzz with husband Zoren Legaspi.
Rumor has it that the only thing holding Carmina back from transferring to the Kapamilya Network is her strong friendship with Gelli—a matter that was quickly dismissed by the latter during a recent conversation with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal).
SiS, according to Gelli, will continue to air.
"Parang pamilya na talaga kami, e," she said. "Yung grupo namin, alam na namin yung kiliti ng mga viewers namin. Because we've been airing since 2001. Itong August, eight years na kami. So siguro malaking bagay din yun na alam na namin yung hindi masyadong gusto ng mga misis at alam namin yung kung anong medyong type nilang panoorin."
As far as the hosts camaraderie goes, Gelli said, "I guess it shows naman when you watch SiS, we're just having fun, we're not trying to be political, we're not trying to be intellectual, we are just trying to entertain our viewers, once in a while give them tips and information na alam namin as housewives and mommies... Masaya lang kami. Gusto lang namin masaya. Kasi sa umaga, kakagising mo lang, kakaluto mo lang ng pananghalian, ayaw namin ng serious, 'no!"
THE MOVE TO BACKROOM. The unexpected death of beloved talent manager Douglas Quijano on June 13, 2009 practically orphaned his many talents, including Gelli—who along with Richard Gomez, Joey Marquez, Anjo and Jomari Yllana—served as Tito Dougs longtime ward.
The absence of a manager prompted Gelli to join Backroom Inc.—the PR and talent management firm owned by television host Boy Abunda.
Gelli described her decision to sign up with Backroom Inc. as a sensible choice given the fact that her husband, singer-actor Ariel Rivera, is with Boy's camp for so many years now.
"Boy is parang family," Gelli told PEP at the 40th day of Tito Dougs passing last July 23 held at Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan.
She added, "When I was thinking about getting a manager, alam ko naman na sa kanya [Boy Abunda] talaga ako [pupunta] because sino pa ba? Para isa na rin yung representation naming mag-asawa."
Gelli informed her former co-talents with Tito Dougs about her decision even before she formally took Backroom Inc. to handle her career.
The shift in management was the only change in Gelli's personal and career life.
When probed if she's planning to change network affiliation as well, Gelli exclaimed, "No, definitely, not right now. Not in the next coming years, no. Kapuso pa rin."
