and lastly, wat if mavirusan ang akong system sir (HDD1), then so will my HDD2 (mirror)? coz dba written man tngale na ang virus/worms/etc. so automatic sad na cya sa mirror?

og kng macorrupt sad ang OS (like naay maoverwrite nko nga system file during installation of an app), corrupted nasad ang OS sa HDD2 ana?
if ma virusan aw kaub0 ang duha.. ma corrupt.. kaub0 ghapun.. RAID is more on a server side kinda thing.. small servers.. just incase if one of the HD goes down a back-up can be easily used and restored...

if backup of data ang imung main purpose.. then u need to install a backup system or use the restore point in windows (t0o bad wla may timemachine sa windows =P)... then backup to another HD..

if have only 2 physical drive then maybe you can try "raid matrix" offered only by intel chipset where you can partition your hdd in 2. so first partition is nakaraid 0 and second partition kay nakaraid 1 or vice versa.

risk jud ng virus, on any system, nakaRAID man o wala. Fault tolerance is the reason why you would opt for a RAID setup. and RAID is not just for small servers, any machine that hosts critical data, big or small, benefits from RAID. you cant always rely on backups man gud, usahay even backup files get corrupted thats why some administrators implement secondary backups or backup of backups.

viruses are not a problem, you can remove them. A HARD DRIVE FAILURE is WORSE THAN A VIRUS INFECTION which is why raid is very useful against these scenarios.

poldopunk seems your good at it.
any steps or screenshots on how to?

  6. #36
you would have to take a photo to take a screenshot of creating an array as there's no screenshot option outside windows (RAID BIOS).

oh yah. your right. nevermind. any steps?

enable RAID in your BIOS (usually under integrated peripherals), save exit. on your next post, the RAID startup will appear on-screen and its usually Ctrl + I for intel chipsets. select the RAID option you want to create, then select the hard drive. for data striping, you need to select the stripe size (iirc, 8kb, 16,kb, 32kb, 64kb, 128kb) then create raid volume. for data mirroring, simply select the 2 drives for the array.

for windows xp, kailangan naka slipstream na ang raid drivers sa imong installer kung wala ka floppy drive. for vista, simply load the drivers on a USB stick then i detect lang sa hard drive setup na part.

kapuy ra man install and setup.
lisud pa gyud e balhin ug lain computer ang harddisk.
    hasul lang lagi.

    id either go for
    2HDD -
    raid0 - nindyud para gaming
    or
    4HDD -
    hdd(1 for os) + raid5 (3 for my data)
