well, if you just stay home, only very few things would happen to your life.. life is really a matter of taking chances..

riding a plane is of course better than any other transportation means. it takes you to another locations in just few minutes or hours.. we just have to take the risk though. but then, we have to focus on the positive side of everything para no worries.

    Lucky kid.

based on latest reports, this is not yet confirmed. some say its a 14 year old girl.

    details:

*****I, Comoros – Reports that a 5-year-old boy survived a jetliner crash in the Indian Ocean are now in question.

Rachida Abdullah is an immigrations officer in the Comoros, where the plane went down. She says there were early reports that a 5-year-old boy had survived the crash and was found floating at sea. Now, she says, it appears the survivor is a 14-year-old girl.

Neither report could be independently confirmed.

It involves flying a "coupled approach" where the plane's automatic pilot is coupled to ground-based signals on the final approach to the runway. Using those signals, the airplane follows a "radio beam" until it reaches the runway. If properly certified, the plane can actually land itself without human intervention save for the act of moving the throttles to idle thrust. Even braking and steering on the runway can be done automatically. Most large jetliners nowadays can do automatic landings (yes, even the ones flown by PAL and Cebu Pacific). In fact, in really poor visiblity that is the only way to get the aircraft on the ground.

Don't worry, there is no way terrorists can control a plane remotely even if they wanted to. They can't hack into the autopilot system and fly the plane from the ground because the system's architecture won't allow it.

Bad weather, an instrument approach, an airline being monitored for safety issues by EU aviation authorities. Without pre-empting the results of the investigation and any conclusions on the exact cause, I think it would be safe to say the accident had more mundane causes other than terrorists taking over remotely.

    Ambut lang kaha sa Decepticons.

Re the child survivor. It will probably be found that the plane impacted the water at a shallow rate of descent and at a speed close to landing speed. If it had gone into the water in an uncontrolled dive, we wouldn't be talking about how lucky anyone could have been to survive the crash.

if it would be confirmed that a kid really survived the crash, then it is some kind of a miracle.

Well, remember the Hudson miracle. But you're right. The conditions here are totally different--bad weather, strong winds, rough seas--and for anyone to survive at all is nothing short of a miracle.

I stand corrected re the automatic landing system in place in modern airliners. There hasn't been any outstanding case of an airliner being flown/landed automatically, so I assumed it doesn't exist.

Boss Rodsky, MY caz told me na basin na jud cguro ning gitawag nato na automatic lannding guide system or whatsoever man gani ang tawag nila ani. Even in catapult lunch daw, sit back lang sila then ila e butang ilang righthand sa handgrip sa fighter jet located sa upper right portion sa cockpit then inig lunch sa catapult ug mo abot na ug 60-100 meters from the aircraft carrier then anha na sila mo shift sa manual pilot daw. Wow, what an exciting experience. Hina-ot naa ta ani sa airforce nato. hehehehe Then i hope someday na ma apply na unta ni sa atong mga commercial airlines aron likay jud sa disgrasya o aksidente man gani. Ragarding pud sa Yemeni plane na nahagsa, said a 14-year-old girl survived the crash. And Yemen's embassy in Washington issued a statement saying a young girl survived and was taken to a hospital. It also said five bodies were recovered. Grabeha sa, tagsa ra kaau mahitabo na naay mo survive ug plane crash.
