In my experience, both brands can take equally good pics, but mas lig-on lang jud kau ang Nikon. Yes, naay service center ang Canon pero usahay maabot ug 6 months- 1 year ang magparepair. My Nikons have never needed service yet. Nikon convert na ko ron.

Bro if budget lang here's the comparison for beginners: Canon 1000D kit with 18-55mm lens, live viewfinder, autofocus around P23,500, Nikon D3000 with 18-55mm lens, no live viewfinder & autofocus P28K? (forgot the price), or higher dslr Nikon D5000 with 18-55mm lens, with live viewfinder & autofocus P31K. Naa nagbaligya diri sa istorya barato ra but cash. If card nimo kay outside plus P5k ka.

Canon has a 3 year warranty & naa sa mabolo ilang service center. Nikon has 1 year warranty & sa Manila ilang service center.

If you just shoot, ok ang Canon 1000D or Nikon D5000. But if you're planning to go deeper into photography, that's another case. Hope this helps.
