we will never know if somebody is better than GMA unless we give them a chance to prove it.

i know about the undervaluation of our peso and its correction to that effect, but that's not it. If u happen to read about her fiscal policies that improved our fiscal performance thus leading to our peso's strength, you will know what i mean. that is what i want to attribute to her accomplishments.
NO, the whole problem as i've said earlier, is that people have a tendency to undermine (or even don't know at all) the accomplishments. instead, they get more attention and focus on scandals or controversial issues hounding her admin.Originally Posted by tinsi
well, let me refresh your memory with few examples:
(1) Arroyo implemented a controversial policy of holiday economics, adjusting holidays to form longer weekends with the purpose of boosting domestic tourism and allowing Filipinos more time with their families.
(2) Economic growth in terms of gross domestic product has averaged 4.6% during the Arroyo presidency from 2001 up to the end of 2005. This is higher than previous recent presidents when compared to the 3.8% average of Aquino, the 3.7% average of Ramos, and the 2.8% average of Joseph Estrada. Inflation during the Arroyo presidency has been the lowest since 1986, averaging 2.5%...AND U CALL THIS LUCK OF BEING THE SITTING PRESIDENT?
(3) Arroyo's handling of the economy has earned praise from observers including former US President Bill Clinton, who praised Arroyo for making "tough decisions" that put the Philippine economy back in shape...LUCK AGAIN U SAY?
(4) A controversial expanded value added tax (e-VAT) law, considered the centerpiece of the Arroyo administration's economic reform agenda, was implemented in November 2005, aiming to complement revenue-raising efforts that could plug the country's large budget deficit. The tax measure boosted confidence in the government's fiscal capacity and helped to strengthen the Philippine peso, making it East Asia's best performing currency in 2005-06. The peso strengthened by nearly 20% in 2007, making it by far Asia's best performing currency for the year, a fact attributed to a combination of increased remittances from overseas Filipino workers and a strong domestic economy...LUCK AGAIN?
well, assuming there is some kind of "luck" (as a lucky b**ch), i can't call this "luck" only. I call this more of an "EFFORT"...

dili ko economista pero ang simpli na pag measure nako kung maayo ang pagdala sa gobyerno mao ni - kung ang mga tawo natagaan sa ilang panginahanglanon ug mapagawas sila sa poverty.

with the status qou, shuld we impeach her jus to give others a chance. or shuld we jus support her for the sake of our economy and wait till 2010.Originally Posted by cdburgh

the problem with us filipinos is that everytime a problem arises, we demand instant solutions. this looming crisis
can never be solved overnight. obviously, GMA has a good fiscal agenda. no doubt about it.

i am not saying that we should impeach her nor install a new government thru people power. i was merely stating my thoughts to your statement "we are better off with gma than the likes of erap, fpj or even noli". as it is no one can say that one is better than the other until you allow them to prove themselves. i supported her and 2001 and will continue to support her as long as there is transparency in government dealing. almost 8 years have passed and those people clamoring for answers have the right to ask for it.Originally Posted by etienne

we can always criticize. but praise? why not? praises weren't also spoon-fed by our gov't. IMHO, praises come from different directions, local or international. even former US Pres Clinton praised her handling of our economy.
do u have proof that our economy is going south? in figures ha. aw di man diay ta motuo ug numbers noh? ayaw nlng ky way pulos ky "feel" ra man kha atoang basehan...

ang one simple ra kau pag measure sa pagdala sa gobyerno is to look into the ECONOMIC ASPECT from one point in time to another, say, from Erap's time to currently PGMA's time. look! we have improved GDP. we have lower inflation rate. our peso is stronger. we have more investments. we have more tourists. we have lower budget deficit, etc...
and by the way, c PGMA dili na cya salamangkero nga ig isa sa kamot, mokalit lang kawagtang ang kapobre sa mga pinoy...
in Cebu's economic peformance alone, unsa may angay nato sawayon ni PGMA nga naa man na cya sa Malacanang? mas pansinon unta nato ang performance of our local leaders with the likes of Tomas, Jonas and Gwen...

try comparing your numbers with our neighbors, vietnam started opening its door to foreign investment only in 1994 and yet their growth is much faster than ours. direct foreign investment in the Phils is only about $ 2.7B compared to $8B in Thailand.
ang numbers bro dili ma feel, ang ma feel ang gutom sa tiyan sa atong mga igsoon nga naglisod.
