    Philippines' Estrada gets life
Former Philippine President Joseph Estrada was sentenced to life in prison by an anti-graft court on Wednesday, more than six years after he was ousted from office in an army-backed revolt.

The courthouse was silent as the 70-year-old former film star was pronounced guilty of economic plunder while in office.

The charge carries a minimum sentence of life imprisonment and bars anyone convicted from ever seeking public office.

Estrada has previously said he would appeal if convicted, initially at the anti-graft court itself. The case will also come up for automatic review at the Supreme Court.
