I think Chris is just an abusive father/husband. We shouldnt be shocked just cuz he is a WWE superstar. Many such people exist.

Here is a brief history:

The couple, who had lived together since 1997 and were married in 2000, had separated when Nancy Benoit, a wrestling manager who worked under the stage name "Woman," filed for divorce in May 2003.

In the accompanying petition for protection from domestic abuse, Nancy Benoit, 43, claimed she was intimidated by threats of violence from her 40-year-old, 5-foot-10, 220-pound husband, who was known as the "Canadian Crippler."

Benoit, the petition said, "lost his temper and threatened to strike the petitioner and cause extensive damage to the home and personal belongings of the parties, including furniture and furnishings. Petitioner is in reasonable fear for petitioner's own safety and that of the minor child."

In another count, she claimed Benoit had destroyed furniture in the home.

On May 12, 2003, the same day the divorce and protective order petitions were submitted, a judge issued a restraining order against the wrestler and barred him from the family home in Peachtree City.

On Aug. 19, 2003, Nancy Benoit filed to have the divorce and protective petitions dismissed, and both were.

Report: Benoit deaths were murder-suicide

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son before hanging himself in his weight room, a law enforcement official close to the investigation told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Authorities also said they are investigating whether steroids may have been a factor in the deaths of Benoit, his wife and their 7-year-old son. Steroid abuse has been linked to depression, paranoia, and aggressive behavior or angry outbursts known as "roid rage."

"We don't know yet. That's one of the things we'll be looking at," said Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard. He said test results may not be back for weeks.

- Killed his wife Fri., his son Fri. night or Sat. morn.
- His wife tied in arms and legs, blood at the back of the head. Wrapped in towel.
- Bible between each of his victims.
- Steroid(prescribed) found in his home, and maybe the cause.

- Lt. Pope: WWE called police officials at 2:30PM on Monday over concern for Benoit’s well being. Police found all three bodies in the home. “Double Homicide Suicide” is the official ruling.

- It appears Benoit killed his wife on Friday, his son shortly after, and likely hanged himself either late Saturday night or early Sunday.

- No suicide note was left behind.

- Asphyxiation is the official ruling for Benoit’s wife and son deaths.

- Benoit was previously arrested for a DUI.

- A lot of prescription medication was found in the home, legal prescriptions.

- Police found anabolic steroids in the home.

- No comment from police regarding a possible motivation.

- He killed himself several hours, but no more than a day, after killing son Daniel.

- Police is unaware of prior domestic violence.

- District Attorney Scott Ballard stated that a Bible was placed near each murder victim.

- Benoit bond Nancy’s hands and feet and she was wrapped in a towel. Blood was found near Nancy’s body.

- In 2003, a temporary restraining order was sought but later dropped.

- Benoit made no attempt to hide the bodies.

- The DA himself has not heard from WWE.

- Daniel was found in an upstairs bedroom. Benoit’s wife was also found in an upstairs family room, and Benoit hung himself in the weight room in the basement.

- The toxicology reports are still pending. It will probably take more than two weeks for the reports to be finished.

- Benoit apparently called WWE stating that Daniel was coughing up blood, thus likely the “personal reasons” for missing weekend house shows.

@edgeowns, reading your hard words makes me remember and reflect on Luke 6:37.

As for myself, I grieve for Chris Benoit for his terrible losses: his family, his life and his own humanity.

What a tragedy it is really, so much the sadness since Chris Benoit is hailed as a hero and a role model by many (one of such is me). This just goes to show how deep and dark the canyon that splits the on-screen persona from the one that hides off-screen and behind closed doors.

It's sad and tragic thus I don't feel that ANYONE should presume themselves to be righteous and have cause to judge Chris Benoit for what he did.

Though what he did was wrong, if the toxicology reports come and prove that he had steroids in his system and thus the murder-suicide could have been brought on by a drug-induced "roid" rage, then Chris Benoit is very much a victim as well.

This tragedy is the act of a tortured soul who wasn't able to stop and call for help when he needed the most. Now its too late. Now he's dead and he has taken his family with him in cruelty.

Does Chris Benoit deserve our scorn? Well scorn him if you will, condemn him if it pleases your good nature, perhaps his own spirit would agree with you.

As for myself, I can only feel confusion, sadness and sympathy for a man who had become a hero for me and made me believed that in one's own identity and strength, one can stand out from the many.

Chris Benoit, how far you have fallen but even then we could still learn something from you, that the most sorry thing in the world is when one cannot or does not have someone or something to call for help.

The ability to ask for help is belief and an action for hope and miserably for Chris Benoit, he believed he had none: help nor hope.

Steroids were not, and could not, be related to the cause of death (asphyxiation). Authorities had no factual basis to speculate as to Benoit’s state of mind, and rightly did not do so.

^^Benoit died because he hanged himself in the weights room. That was definitely evident.

But as for his state of mind as to what may have led him to murder his own family before taking his own life, it's still in speculation that steroids abuse may be a factor being this body-building drug can can cause paranoia, depression and explosive outbursts known as "roid rage."~

It'll take at least a month for the toxicology reports to prove that Benoit was abusively taking steroids.
