    Default The Technical Side of Filmmaking...

    I have a lineup of topics that we could discuss here if you guys are interested so just advise.

    Like always, I encourage you to share info and ask questions. For this will be the basis of our discussion and growth.

    @Hellweek
    It's just unfortunate that my tests don't include motion graphics, I would have loved to share info with you but since my knowledge is very limited I will refrain from doing so as I might not be of help. Anyway, I assume you are using After Effects, if you can cross platform, Motion would be another tool.

    Enjoy your journey. Best regards...

    @Vanceloma
    Another suggestion on how to do things is to check the location at the same time as your expected shooting time so you have an idea how light behaves in the area at that time and give you a feel of traffic (visual and aural) volume.

    When checking for audio, a mere clap will give you a hint if reverberation will be a problem.

    And in dealing with hostility in malls, a dyed hair helps.

    Seriously, if you really need to shoot in a mall then start practicing shooting at a different angle from where your facing. Example, point your camera towards your right side while in crossed arm position and glancing only at the LCD from time to time. This disguised relaxed position often helps rid of suspicion guards and who ever your shooting won't be conscious. I know you can find better ways so please share.

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards...

    how i wish there's someone kind enough to sponsor me for studies in filmmaking. i really like to be a filmmaker someday, in the likes of Mel Gibson who did "The Passion Of Christ."

    Your suggested path would definitely work.

    However, for guys whose passion for filmmaking is a lot bigger than there pockets, they can start by studying the good films (this is categorical). Make a summary of each film, take note of story design/narrative structure, cinematography, editing, sound/dialogues/music/SFX, production design, etc... and even go as far as breaking down scenes and sequences. But remember that the first viewing should be dedicated to enjoying the film.

    In the net research and read articles and stories on filmmaking and filmmakers as they will inspire you.

    In short, learn as much about filmmaking as possible even before you get hold of the equipment. Ask questions and let's discuss things here.

    But most importantly, shoot whenever you have the chance to as it's the only way to validate your theories.

    Best regards...

    hmm.. actually, you don't have to start with pro-cams. even a consumer cam will do for a start. XL2s don't come cheap.

    a filmmaker with an XL2 but has a bad story can be beaten by a filmmaker who has a good story and uses a Hi-8 camera.

    if you've got a story to tell, doesn't matter man what camera you use...

    It's all in the execution.

    Because of my background in photography, I watch how much light gets in the location at specific times , I also look at the density of human and vehicular traffic in the area. In other words, I observe the location, find out what problems may come up during the shoot and how I can possibly control the situation.

    Though, we are lucky enough that most of our shoots were done in enclosed properties. I agree when you say that there is nothing wrong with being over-prepared.
    Dili, muhatag kog 50 item test, hagbong gani ang location, balhin!!
    joke ra

    yup, basically ingon ana, unya mu fit ba sa CREATIVE BRIEF sa story ang location. all the SOP in preparation are to be concerned...

    Also, I see to it na naay SAVE POINT sa shoot (my term) where asa maka relax ang talent, unya naay food and stuff, diri sad ang production designer nako mag stay, murag SPACE for prep na out of the camera view.

    I've done one shoot na daghan kaayo ug crossover sa light, maygani naka kita lang kog way na ma cheat ang lighting.

    @exudos
    hehe, kung mu shoot ka sa LRT, kung dili guerilla style, asa kaha ka mananghid noh? murag daghan cguro kaayo na ug arte sa?

    kadtong shoot namo sa mall, guerilla style, HAPIT na gyud mahuman ang shot, duol dayon ang sikyo, namadlong! leche!!! pahumana lang mi!!! arrggghhh!!! gi da dayon mi sa security...

    sus, I should've thought of that fake tape trick....

    the fake tape containing....GAyporn....HA!!! CONFISCATE THAT YOU B!TCHES!!! muhahahaha

    but then again, akong credibildad mu suffer, post na na sila sa akong pic sa security labeled "WATCH OUT FOR GAY PORNOGRAPHER, if seen in the mall, aproach with EXTREME caution"

    @thnx for the tips, I'll keep them in mind....

    what about acting? you guys have any acting tips?
    I'm working on one talent, I'm trying to bring out his anger out of im...cause he looks so plain...must make him look evil...

    Vanceloma,

    Bargohan di-ay ang tape basta bawal shootan?? or pa-undangan ra ka.

    as for acting, my style is like Michael Mann. I give them sheets of information NOT seen in the film. Things that would have been in the novelization or expanded universe of my story... and i don't know if it helped them one bit.

    I'm not even sure they read them.
