I'm not so sure how to go about it, but I'm sure it can be done.  If there's such a thing as civil disobedience (e.g., refusal to pay taxes), this is one other way.  I suppose we can always write our Personnel Heads to not deduct GSIS premium contributions from our salaries (and, of course, stating our reasons for it).

But then again, for this mass movement to work, we must rally many government employees (including the Personnel Heads!).  We need to convince a lot of people, many of whom (I'm sure) will be hesitant.

I don't know if there's a precedent, but an alternate cooperative could be set up to take care of the social security and insurance of government employees.

Don't take my word for this.  I know it sounds crazy.  But I'm very disappointed with GSIS.  I'm just a new member, and I already see a dark future for me.  *SIGH*

GSIS has lost touch with its clients.  I don't feel that I can rely on that government agency.  They have poor client service.  I guess they also lack foresight.  Two G-W@PS kiosks to serve the entire population of Cebu's government employees?  That's service?  That's foresight?  One month waiting time for e-Card delivery?  Heck!  Credit card companies beat GSIS, hands down.

Now that's a thought.  If there were an alternative/competitor to GSIS, I'm sure the latter will step up and shape up their service.  I think GSIS's monopoly of the public sector's social security and insurance is one big reason for the agency's relaxed attitude towards client service.  But, throw a competitor into the scene, and I'm sure the new competitor will give GSIS a run for their money.  Even Winston Garcia would probably squirm in his seat.

If there were an alternative to GSIS, I'd go for that alternative.

Wow... grabeha gyud diay ana sah,... makahilak man pud ta. My mom is lucky since naa ko sister inlaw nag work sa GSIS (not cebu branch though)... so, tanan kahinganlan sa ako mom, ako sister inlaw ang ga process. hmmm pabor2x gyud diay oh well. All I think what the GSIS employees need is a good training. Wala lang gyud siguro ni sila sakto nga training ug process. Management failure gyud ni sa dagkong tae sa GSIS. Unsaon nang pagka hightech sa GSIS kung lowtech people ang ga manage ....

gsis employees are highly paid compared to other government employees, and yet they dont give the quality service that we really deserve. look at pag-ibig at least we can say that they are far better that gsis, pila raman ang deduction nato sa pag-ibig gamay raman gani. govt. employees are a captive market sa gsis mau na they can do all they want, and what they want.

i guess your right elmonitis, we dont really have any choice kung naa pa nay competition ang gsis i bet matarung na na ilang sistema. sakto sad na emung suggestion nga dili ta mubayad ug monthly premiums sa gsis just to send them a strong message that we demand the service that we really deserve.

GSIS is difficult to contact by phone. All the numbers listed under GSIS in the phone directory are no longer in service.

In contrast, I tried calling up PAG-IBIG one time (last month, I think) to inquire about loans. They were able to answer my inquiry over the phone.

If GSIS is really bent on improving its service, they should listen to its clients. They should provide avenues for clients to complain or inquire. An online public forum, for example, would allow GSIS to know its clients sentiments about its services. But then, I'm sure GSIS would be somewhat afraid of confirming what they already know in the first place--that they have very poor client service.

As I already mentioned, I'm not quite familiar with social security topics. Do private insurance companies have the same scope and kind of privileges offered by GSIS? If they do, then maybe we ought to migrate to the private insurance companies.

You're right about the captive market thing. I agree. We are captives. We are hostages. There should be a competitor so we don't have to be captives any longer.

Mao ba? I didn't know that. The instructions that came with my e-Card didn't mention that step, too. GSIS ought to be more transparent and accurate with their processes and instructions so their client won't waste time.
