Sorry about this post.. but i think i have to give you a bit of a hmm... criticism. i don't really want to do something like this, especially when not asked. I just need to say something here.
anyway, here it goes...
I have no problem about taking opportunities. Grab some shots ASAP, coz "moments" are more important than making a photo perfect. BUT...
what you have here, is not just about taking QUICK photos. This moment didn't really happen in a split second or definitely NOT less than 5 secs. This is not a situation when you don't have enough time to make a least an acceptable exposure. You have a few angles, you were able to do a few steps to your right / left, do some zooms, wait for some good moments (high note + point of a finger for example)...
About the effects, yes i think i get what you mean... but it would have been better if you were 2 stops higher at least. 2 stops is 6 steps in turning the shutter speed / aperture / ISO dial. lets not go very technical coz i dont like technical stuffs in photography. You were saying there were resto's and bars in the background? Somehow nothing is visible in any of em. The lamps in the background are even underexposed, except for the spot light.
Good stage lighting or bad stage lighting, do not blame the environment. Post-processing needed? definitely not, photos like these doesn't need PP, all you have to do is measure your exposure right.
I'm sure you are using digital, how about shoot, check LCD, adjust, shoot, check LCD adjust... for at least 1 min perhaps? you have all the time. Lastly, "PRO" photographers are photographers who get paid. You don't have to be a PRO to do exposure metering.
I hope this helps. Again, my apologies.
