Default Daily Scripture Reading (from the Catholic Bible)

    for Monday, April 11, 2005

All who undertake to teach must be endowed with deep love, the greatest of patience, and, most of all, profound humility. They must perform their work with earnest zeal. Then, through their humble prayers, the Lord will find them worthy to become fellow workers with him in the cause of truth. He will console them in the fulfillment of this most noble duty, and finally, will enrich them with the gift of heaven.

    -- Saint Joseph Calasanz

    First Reading: Acts 6:8-15
    Psalm:Psalm 119:23-24, 26-27, 29-30
    Gospel:John 6:22-29

On the next day the people who remained on the other side of the sea saw that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with his disciples, but that his disciples had gone away alone. However, boats from Tiber'i-as came near the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks. So when the people saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats and went to Caper'na-um, seeking Jesus. When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, "Rabbi, when did you come here?" Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of man will give to you; for on him has God the Father set his seal."
Then they said to him, "What must we do, to be doing the works of God?" Jesus answered them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent."

i understand that majority of the sections here may be debatable *dunno if thats the spelling*, but the thing is, ate ara posted these for our daily reflection. REFLECTION. thats all we need to understand each other... RESPECT.

I wasn't debating, although there might have been posts of mine that weren't part of the Gospel...

And there are even snippets from the Epistles that are sufficient enough for reflection. Very little snippets as the Epistles are part of the Gospel

    First Reading: Acts 2:14, 22-33
    Psalm:Psalm 16:1-2, 5, 7-11
    Second Reading:1 Peter 1:17-21
    Gospel:Luke 24:13-35
You see even Ate Ara quotes Peter, an epistle NOT necessarily part of the 4 Gospels. Also, she quotes St. Dominic Savio and the other canonizede "saints" of the Catholic church whose writings are n0t found in the Book of Life. Likewise, some of my quotes aren't Bible based but they aren't entirely O.T.

You see, I don't debate, but I also post in a somewhat Machiavellian manner some very Christian quotes.

None of what she's posted is debatable, as I said I wasn't debating.
And by the way I think DaVinci Code is a load of B.S. if that should give anyone an indication of the kind of person I am NOT.

for the above, i have my own opinions but i choose not to dwell on it. i meant well in this thread and i intend to let it stay that way.

as for the purpose of this thread, this link will further explain my side: http://www.catholic.com/thisrock/2004/0402fea3.asp

OT: i will be editing the title from daily gospel to daily scripture reading because i have included here the first reading, 2nd reading (for Sundays) and responsorial psalm (yes, they are not a part of the Gospel but are still part of the Liturgy of the Word). Quotes are given (though not a part of the gospel) as a pre-reflective thought.

    for Tuesday, April 12, 2005

If we love God and are faithful to Him, we shall be at peace, and this peace will endure.

    -- St. Madeline Sophie Barat

    First Reading: Acts 7:51 -- 8:1
    Psalm:Psalm 31:3-4, 6-8, 17, 21
    Gospel:John 6:30-35

So they said to him, "Then what sign do you do, that we may see, and believe you? What work do you perform? Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, `He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'" Jesus then said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven, and gives life to the world." They said to him, "Lord, give us this bread always." Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.

Go to Jesus. He loves you and is waiting for you to give you many graces. He is on the altar surrounded by angels adoring and praying. Let them make some room for you and join them in doing what they do.

    -- St. Mary Joseph Rossello

    First Reading: Acts 8:1-8
    Psalm:Psalm 66:1-7
    Gospel:John 6:35-40

Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me; and him who comes to me I will not cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me; and this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up at the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that every one who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day."

To harbor no envy, no anger, no resentment against an offender is still not to have charity for him. It is possible, without any charity, to avoid rendering evil for evil. But to render, spontaneously, good for evil - such belongs to a perfect spiritual love.

    -- St. Maximus the Confessor

    First Reading: Acts 8:26-40
    Psalm:Psalm 66:8-9, 16-17, 20
    Gospel:John 6:44-51

No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, `And they shall all be taught by God.' Every one who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me. Not that any one has seen the Father except him who is from God; he has seen the Father. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat of it and not die.
I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh."

Default Daily Scripture Reading (from the Catholic Bible)

    Friday, April 15, 2005

It is a matter of real sorrow when God has given those strength to break stronger fetters, those of vanity and sin, that they neglect their own progress and the attainment of such great blessings because they will not detach themselves from trifles. Not only do they not advance, they fall back. For it is well known that on the spiritual road not to go on overcoming self is to go backwards, and not to increase our gain is to lose.As wood can never be transformed into fire if one necessary degree of heat is missing, so the soul that has even one imperfection can never be perfectly transformed in God.

-- St. John of the Cross

    First Reading: Acts 9:1-20
    Psalm:Psalm 117:1-2
    Gospel:John 6:52-59

52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"
    53 So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you;
54 he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
55 For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.
57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me.
58 This is the bread which came down from heaven, not such as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live for ever."
59 This he said in the synagogue, as he taught at Caper'na-um.
