broken person - someone who lost a part them self emotionally due to circumstances too difficult to get over with. someone who doesn't have any love to give. someone who's just going through the motions of living ... half-dead, half-alive, someone who's just plain miserable.

for me:
broken hearted - means someone broke his heart or he let someone broke his heart but can be mended.
broken person - broke his soul...hopeless and wants to stay that way....
