I use Nikon and personally prefer Nikon DSLR.

There's a Canon service center in Cebu. No official service center for Nikon. If something goes wrong, it's easier if you have a Canon in Cebu. This is from experience as I use point-and-shoot Canon cameras.

For other brands, I know people who switched to Canon or Nikon after trying Olympus or other brands. Simply because there is limited availability of lenses and other accessories.

for now, i think canon's entry level would be the 450d but they are going to release an entry level cam which is the canon 1000d... its between the 400d and 450d and has a good price... i think its 20k...

for nikon, there entry level camera would be the nikon d40...
