@friend: using 250 watts sa 300 watts ok ra as long as sure ka na maka abot ug 300 watts ang imo psu. dili sad ba kana ma stress ang imong psu ana? assuming sad na efficient ang imong psu.

I've been working around computers for years, harddrives retires when you least expect it, even if you were so very careful. Yes, we can do things to try and prolong it's life.
I really have notthing against what you posted, except for the usage or passage that somewhat got me confused...
"as insufficient power would be left to your hard disk after the processor has satisfied its power requirement."
Im not sure where you got the idea that the CPU will consume most of the power, as you can see from the circuit diagram, each voltage drop point is regulated. That is why I said, as long as the line can deliver enough curren/voltage it is OK. As you can see the voltage outputs are individual. You can verify this also by looking at PSU label you will see a matrix on how much current can be delivered for each line.

Btw, I never used expensive PSU, always been using bundled PSU, never had problems for years. Same with a HDD, I only got a HDD broken when I accidentally dropped it.
now this is another story. a technician is dumb when he/she applies a 250watts psu if the stated requirement of the CPU is 300watts.Â* for sure the output shall degrade.Â* just like buying a pair of shoe with a size of 8 inches where your feet's requirement is 10, that will have a funny output.Originally Posted by fatsu

Ideally, Power input should be equal to the Power output. If your system requires 300 watts, for best performance, you should use a PSU which would supply the 300-watt requirement. You may opt to use more than 300W to ensure that your system gets enough power that it needs, but it would not make a 'balanced' system. For example, you will use 450W PSU for a system that requires 300W, you can be sure that your system would get the enough power that it needs but you will be wasting the other 150W, which will only be dissipated as 'heat'.![]()
(sigh) you just answered you question... though "overkill" is not the appropriate term for but rather shall we say, impractical or excessive. but if you have lots of accessories installed to your system, like various cooling system, lightnings, temp meter, and the likes that will make your CPU box look like a christmas tree, then 500watts is applicable with that.Originally Posted by fatsu
just like what [A]riel said, a possibility of imbalanced system and can cause additional temp if applied to a simple rig.
heheh peace bro ang psu near sa full load based pa sa mga reviews sa mga psu (unless all of them are liars) mo drop ang iya 12V 5V 3.3V rails bisan unsa pa ka efficient ang PSU. if maka risk ka na ang imong 12 kay ma himo ug 11.x i rest my case.![]()
@[A]riel: ah mao diay na if 250 watts imo load then 300 watts imo supply ilisdan nimo ug mas dako na supply mo bugnaw ang imong system

it's better pa man gani nga i-oversize nimo ang PSU to as much as double the actual full load sa CPU aron duna kay ready standby power in case ur system needs it, esp. if ur on heavy graphical applications.
kon duna pai mo-argue ani, see me in person nalang and i will explain in detail why.
but be prepared to understand highly-technical terms like High Ripple, Poor Regulation, Parasitic Oscillations, etc. that are inherent with Sagging Power Supplies.
and pls do not argue using Kirchoff's Law, it only stays in the Books and would not enligten u any further why.
amen boss. dili man gud ko kasabot why mo argue jud sila sa issue sa psu. anyway opinion man sad na nila. peaceOriginally Posted by ruelnov
