    Ian,

yeah, that's the problem with digital. i'm shooting RAW so i have to specify my own USM, curves values in photoshop.

my jpeg output is questionable, or i don't like it at all.

anyway, if you shoot jpeg, there's post processing done real time by DIGIC I or II if you'r using Canon and maybe choosing parameters a.k.a Picture Styles; or VENUS engine if you're using panasonic/lumix/leica thing.. w/c will make an image for you.

one way or another, these engines, even the photoshop ones just do 3-4 basic things to convert raw data into image; interpolate sensor data, apply Curves, aplly USM, and apply saturation level.

If you read manual from canon, they suggest that you have to apply USM even if you shoot jpg

@agoroy - Your picture shows a poignant reality of Cebu. I have a soft heart for kids, got a little boy myself. One question, was the floor really inclined?

Ian, am not into defending of sorts. but sometimes we have to open our minds to different ideas.
even before this digital camera thing, i have a habit of applying USM everytime i scanned transparencies on our
drum scanner, it's like unwritten rules on transforming your photos into ones and zeros.

try search HiLoRam on google .. this was discussed well for the past few years

Sometimes I also have issues with leveling the horizon in my pics. Just got a new focusing screen with grids, hopefully it will help.

agoroy, bai I said you're photos are great. I understand we have different styles, and it doesnt bother me at all in the first place. I just said too much PP on your photos but its great. I have my own style, and am not into Photo alterations you know... Thats it. Individuality of style bai ba.

the thing i can't imagine realistically is carrying that 2.8 monster all day...its just too darn heavy for me
di sad masulod sa akong bag hehehe. but its the best gyud...
