yeah,sak2 rexbrown, gkan mana sa punk sa una.
in cebu,i think emo had its origins back in 2001,when nu metal was dying, and punk was gaining ground, thanks to johnny punk and nu107.
i clearly remembered that newfoundglory was one of the first bands to be labeled as "emo-punk".well,they were, most of their songs were about breakups anyway.
and then,it just exploded.bands like thursday went with the "emo-core" tag which certainly fits their sound. post-hardcore punks at the drive in re-invigorated the fashion of wearing
tight shirts and girl pants and made it look uber cool, in contrast to the loose,hip-hop style prevalent in nu metal those days.
and when bands like finch also gained fame, alot of bands covered them, since it was quite an easy transition since finch was deftones-inspired.
dashboard confessional was one of those artists that started the whole gayish,sob-story life of emo kids. teenagers related to him just like the former teenagers related to Kurt Cobain's musings with Nirvana, and how 80's kids related to the Cure back in the day. See?it's just a vicious cycle.
the post-hxc, screamo, and whatever crap we often hear today basically came from the bands that carried the "emo" tag back then. Bands like Hopesfall, the used, taking back sunday, poison the well, and many others sound as the same as the bands we hear now. g pang mix nalang ilang mga tirada.
Kanang mga underoath?bless the fall?the devil wears prada?chasing victory?alesana?alexisonfire?ug unsa pana mga sagpa music dha?sus, gkan ra tanan na sa nag una.
and kids today claim na super swito na cla sa scene.hahaha
well, that's sort of my take on how "emo" cebu got during the past few years,as an observer.
well, emo in the states dates so much further than 2001.some say 1995 with fugazi and sunny day real estate, some say even much before, mga late 80's pa gane. ka2ng the cure pa ug a flock of seagulls preview ra sa mga dagway sa mga kids karun.
does saetia even ring a bell?
lolz.
