This' just in, "Riley Expected to Take Over as Heat Coach Today". In about 3 hours from this post, the Miami Heat will announce the news that Pat Riley would take over the realms as head coach for the Heat after Stan Van Gundy resigned around 9 am today. I don't believe Van Gundy did this on his own with the Heat's W-L record at 11-10 despite Shaq's absence for 18 of those games because of injury. I can see Pat Riley's finger prints all over this crime scene. It's not fair and rather cold, but this is how the NBA or any other sports for that matter thrives in this cut-throat business. The christmas day game between the Lakers' tamdem of Jackson-Bryant and the Heat's Riley-O'neal just suddenly became interesting or pretty exciting because of all the history and rivalry of Pat Riley-Phil Jackson of the Knicks-Lakers era. This is why "I LOVE THIS GAME". :mrgreen:

This is how Pat Riley planned it all along. As team president, he made all the moves from last year's team that went to the conference championships until the trades this off-season. Van Gundy was made into a "crash test dummy" or a pawn so that he(Riley) could then take over when he sees the team not living up to expectations. Shaq was quoted this summer that he doesn't like Van Gundy coaching the team and privately called Stan the team's "mascot" and instead wanted Riley to be the skipper. Well, I bet everything now is moot and academic.
