Technical wise, HD-DVD is just a DVD evolved while Bluray is completely a different technology when it comes to the medium construction.

thats why its better to make an HTPC player with a bluray optical drive. For 60k, you get a bluray player and a full function PC, a gaming PC pa gyud

Anyway, my gf is watching Blu-ray right now(Highschool Musical 2 - yuck)... and its really really amazing. Of course its dependent on what type of HDTV you got(model, size, resolution); settings; and how far youre sitting at to get the best viewing. Not to say the type of move you got; others just have poor transfers.
