Default Blu-Ray, HD-DVD already getting outdated?!?

    http://www.maxell-usa.com/Content/Pa...&Open=datapr41

Maxell Corporation of America, the technological leader in advanced recordable media, and InPhase Technologies are bringing a revolutionary technology to market - holographic media. With uncompressed storage capacities achieving 1.6 TeraBytes per disk and data rates as high as 120 MBPs, holographic technology is a true breakthrough in optical media. These features, along with a long archival life, make holographic media a compelling choice for storage and archival requirements.

@koto: if you've read the entire article, you would have realized that the first 300GB media will be out late 2006.

B-Ray technology has been reality for a couple of year na. But it isn't main stream until now. If that new media will be out by late 2006 doesn't mean people are going to use it right there and then. Just my two cents. ^_^

research more dude before u give me that smile, the CECE and other elctronic organization stuff.. only approve the HD-DVD to come out 1st on the consumer value line-up (HD-DVD also uses blu-ray technology drives to work, but unlike blu-ray some HD-DVD disk dont need a enclousure protection, but i still suggest u need to take care of it since it will be very thin so easy to scratch)
YES i read it "they said it in the last part", there is a 300gig media disk but can the ordinary home or office users use a very expensive disk everyday w/ a price of ur neck, hell no, its only made to order (for heavy user or buisness use a.k.a. video or 3d production use) theres even this terabytes external storage that my freind working on a advertising agency, i forgot the brand, but i think its lyka... basta nag sugod to og "L" ill ask my
what im saying is the market category of the mainstream users,..

ohhh yeah i remember the the brand its "Lacie" ---> www.lacie.com
so far this is one of the highend disk drives in the market *i know.. beter than plextor and maxtor

Our head says no, but heart says yes, yes to Sony’s latest ultramodern media PC, the VGX-X90P (which better not stand for “eXtreme” or we’re giving up), which comes with 7, count ‘em, 7 TV tuners, up to 1.6 terabytes of storage (half for the PC and half for storing video), a 3.6GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, a 128MB video card, and a DVD+-R/RW drive. Here’s the scary part: this bad boy retails for nearly five grand. And to go along with your new media PC you can’t afford (and also can’t buy except in Japan), Sony also announced a couple of companion pieces in the type X series, a matching digital HDTV tuner (the VGX-X90PS) and a 23-inch HDTV, the VGP-D23HD1.

    @koto:
good to know that HD-DVD's are already available out there-- does mainstream users need it? I don't think so but most probably would want it.*

BTW why the fuss with that smiley--you seem to overanalyze. and why do more research--you said it wouldn't be available in the next 5-6 years.. so naturally I had to point out that the article said it will be out by late 2006.* And by the way.. it doesn't take a genius to realize that this isnt for the mainstream user.

You also need not compare the 300GB optical media with the harddrive storage of Lacie. you're comparing apples to oranges.* But Just like the holographic media, they're not for the mainstream users--for now.

way back in 2003 when Blu-ray was first introduced,* you might also have thought it was not for the mainstream users-- is it now?

Yup mainstream user needs it to back-up thier downloaded movies and TV series since DSL is now very affordable almost everyone has one (to those who own pc of course)and since they will urge to download fun subs or illigal movies, space will be a problem, sample ranan, it will be useful to burn one disk of all ur naruto or gundam .avi or DVD than to w8 15-25min for ur dvd disk to burn only 4.7gig disk w/c can hold 1 to 17-26eps. of anime series, even students who are studying film or practicing editing needs it since space is a must for this applications, the set price of HD-DVD will be high for the first two season (estimated $300-700) (6months or Q1 and Q2 ) but after a year in release it will be affordable (like $100-$400)

hehe i believe mainstream users don't use dsl connections to download movies. would you believe mainstream users in the states with average of 3Mbps connection only use it for email and surfing?
even the 100-400 price isn't even mainstream.* for the 400usd price alone.. you could already buy a mainstream pc. I think we differ in the interpretation of the "mainstream" users.* Mainstream users for me means common users and that they represent the biggest slice on the market.

hey its only an estimate $100-$400, and whats ur proff of a user having a t1 or t3 connection using it only for email & surfing, i think u are refearing to corporate type of connections w/c is plan to use only http w/ ftp lock down
"mainstream dosent always means the people who got biggest slice, how about the low-end users, they'
re the one who made intel chips into the top video chip manufacturer in the world
And the DSL part i was talking here and now (pinas lang bro & this season), almost everybody is in to plann p788,995 & 999
w/ a decent speed, kahit kaibigan kong p6000 lang salary (minimum wage worker) he can afford plan p999 from pldt, it depends how u can make money out of something (download movies=burn it=sell it=wala after 10 customer = u can pay ur plan p999)and HD-DVD manufacturers will surelly target this people, and this people get thier stuff in ordinay pc shops or i-shop
cgurado 2yrs after the realse of this blu-ray drives another technology will come out and this will be affordable (take for example the DVD saga 2yrs ago it was like 11k* now u can get it only for 3.4k plus mabilis pa keysa 11k sa unang release)**

hey DSX fix ur avatar i think its busted or something
