ADVANTAGE OF JAVA OVER C# and VICE-VERSA

c# is pushed by microsoft, java is pushed buy suns...
Java is open source.. but how often do you check on how java's core is implemented?. how often do you contribute to java's progress?.
tell me who used java here and checked in some java fix to their source control?. or implemented a new hardcore java API. and got accepted as part of java's core?. heehehe. its open source but you cant touch it. for your eyes only.

i like c# cuz i dont do mobile apps. i like c# cuz of m$'s IDE rocks. i may use the mono version soon...
java's default GUI and fonts looks crap on windows. looks crap on linux, looks crap on mac. (no pun)

its more like a love at first sight thing. LOL. though i've used java earlier than c# but i fell in love with m$'s c#

c# has great support for the Windows OS. it can run 98% as fast as C++ in terms of game dev.
c# can run on Xbox360 with the new XNA game API. c# can access windows native APIs.
C# mono can run winforms 1.1 http://www.mono-project.com/WinForms though its still lacking. its not like your going to use all the functionality inside a winform... how often do you code winforms with weird combinations of other sh*t?.

ASP.net C# can run on linux with apatche + MySQL with Mono.

c# is not that bad. the only thing im a bit disappointed about is m$ stopping Managed Direct X development. though SlimDX is catching up. from where MDX stopped.. we'll see c# vs java when c# matures.

OT: there was this interview... about microsoft's lead for vista asking "if c# is so great/powerful.. why was vista not built under c#?"... and the answer was " its not that c# is not capable of creating an OS its just that we have more C++ programmers (oldies), and takes too much effort switching from c++ to c# LOL".. hehehee.

Well they're planning to open-source the JDK soon. But initially, although Java is free and we can view the API, it's not open-source.

You can conrtribute sa java using Java Community Process(JCP) http://jcp.org/en/home/index. Puwede you can create your own JDK using openJDK (http://openjdk.java.net/).

I think dili man siguro siya na tinuod. A good example is Neverwinter Nights Game. Ang Neverwinter Night 1 I think is compiled and created using C/C++. That's why ang iyang minimum requirements is only Pentuim 1 and above. It runs on any OS(Windows, Linux, and Mac). On the other hand, ang Neverwinter Night 2 is compiled using C#. Mao na ang Neverwinter Nights 2 is dako kaayo siya ug memory requirements. I think Pentuim 4 and above. Only sa Windows ra siya maka-dagan.

We'll I've using/developing(on and off) Mono for 3 years but still ang progress is still very slow. It is also a year na katong nag-deal ang Novell and Windows.

Too much hype on both language. Big overhead and creates a large installer or runtime environment.

I also don't use them. At work, I am into embedded systems, so mostly hardcore C systems programming and assembly language mostly ang akong gigamit. I do freelance DBMS but mostly web-based (PHP/AJAX, MySQL). I am also doing Python for text parsing, processing and analysis.

I am working with 3 large companies (all are larger than IBM). You cant say Java is hype because it is working excellently for these companies

Just because you dont have experience with them, they're hype. You dont have a credential to say hype or not if your experience is only with poor/no budget MySQL.

Also, big companies like to have Oracle or DB2 backends, because experts of these dbs are professionals and more respected. They have a lot of time focusing on business process rather than hacking/optimizing mysql.

hahahahha.....just because you dont have c#/.net embedded or apps sa imong mobile, walay embedded ang C#/.NET.

Also, we're human, shempre dili gyud ta kabalo tanan.  Try googling them, you can't see lots of entries about embedded application of .net.

Also, last year I installled Microsoft Robotics Studio. IIRC, they're supported by lots of popular robotic kits such as iRobot, Lego. mobileRobots, and etc.

I am not biased, I don't like both languages and not using them professionally.
Yes, I have heard of Mono.
C# maybe has a little bit better GUI but only in windows.
I don't see any C# games on my mobile. I do embedded for work and I only see Java byte-code interpreter and no C# in the embedded world.

I only favor java because of portability.
BTW, C# is pushed by Micro$oft.

I don't know XNA, but I'm not comparing it. I'm making a reaction na ang C# is much faster than C++ on the game development.

Sun will acquire MySQL for $1 billion.

Free does not mean "poor". I have chosen MySQL for efficiency, speed and availability.
Find a webhost with Oracle SQL server as backend.
SQL is standard and queries will work on any back-end SQL software.
