try to repair your OS. use the repair utility tool, if you have an installer.

    pagchure sad.

you dont understand what i mean...

reinstalling OS is very different from reformatting the OS.

FYI, reinstalling the OS only removes and configures a fresh OS system without touching your other installed programs but when we talked about reformatting, its a full wipe.

in my workstations, when severe problem comes that cannot be saved with intensive software fix-ups, i am reinstalling my OS without the need to reinstall all my other programs. so all are intact just like it was but with a fresh operating system.

by the way, windows 98 has a GUI also in OS installation process. even windows 95 has but with a lower color setting.

    u mean dirty install bro?

FYI..what i meant earlier regarding sa GUI is the reformatting process of Win98..unlike in XP u don't have to type commands, click and select and it will reformat the hdd....

nah, not that dirty install. as i have said, fresh reinstallation of the OS. in XP's installation GUI, there is called fix OS but when you configure, it actually reinstalls the whole system files.

it removes the particular OS system files and reinstall them in fresh.

then what i mean is the OS installation process because you quoted mine about reinstallation of OS. next time, please check first what you have quoted to avoid misinterpretations. your line was quite broad with you talk about GUI.

murag dirty install man na cya bro...kay ang old files nimo ikeep niya....the ONLY fresh install I know of is deleting previous partitions then reinstalling a fresh a copy of winxp....kay if adto ka moagi sa options nga Press Enter (to install), Press R (for repair) <-- mao ni cya?! this is not reinstalling OS bro..if I'm not mistaken....parallel install man ni cya....

FYI bro murag sayop man ka sa imong terms gigamit....reformat is not for the OS but for the HDD....then kana pasabot nimo nga reinstall OS (w/o touching installed programs) kay parallel install ni cya....then katong akong pasabot "dirty install" is another type of installation for backing up files from another installation....

You might have an incompatible driver installed, which causes this.

toinks. tanawa ra. where did you find that word dirty installation?

pardon, it was supposed to be hdd. mistyped the word due to i was thinking about OS OS OS...

lol, try it then youll notice in the processes that its actually removing the operating system files and then reinstalling them. the process is like reformatting the hdd and reinstalling the OS with its GUI. but just it wont do reformatting to wipe out the whole partition but rather remove selectively the operating system files and reinstall them again in fresh.

i have experienced the threadstater's problem many times, obviously a corrupted or failing OS due to many factors, and this is always what i am doing. and it really works like a charm. bringing back the OS in normal while all other programs and configurations remain intact.

try to search google bro, what XP dirty reinstall means...it's works similar to parallel install, the only difference is ang files sa previous OS are kept and labelled. XXX.dataold...then u have the chance to view and backup ur old files..... dirty reinstall naming convention is actually used in layman's term sa computer world, mga techies would easily know which is which if u will mention dirty & parallel install....
