Not a week into the thing and I realized this is really way too slow for my needs. I'm a computer science student and some projects just need more-than-average performance like this laptop has to offer.

I knew right from the start what I was bargaining for given the price and the specs. I was told I can return it IF it had physical factory defects. Apparently this is perfectly fine, it's just that - to put it simply - I don't like it.

I made a quick research and learned that in the US, they do accept returns. Though of course, the price wouldn't be as much plus you have to pay for some restocking fees. Im totally fine with that... but the big question is whether that same service is offered here. Do you know of any? What's the best move for this?

Any insight on my problem would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks ahead, guys!
what exactly do you do on your laptop? Unless you do video transcoding or photo/video/3d softwares or abusive games, you are good with that celeron.

I bought a celeron laptop for my kid mainly because it was very cheap at 10k baht (minus tax refund, about 12.5k php). It has really no use for him other than for portability and during brownouts. I expected it to be not that fast and assumed that my kid wont really enjoy using it or even think of using it if he feels it laggish. So immediately as planned, i replaced the stock 2gb ram with 8gb ddr3l and the hdd with a 120gb intel 530 ssd. Amazingly he uses it once in while for lol, other than the intended use and i didnt get any harsh complaints for buying something he wouldnt like (my kid btw has high computing standards as he has 2 desktops which you cant compare to a laptop and he uses solidworks, autocad and photoshop). He even likes it better than some other laptops we have within the household as it boots and shuts down faster and saves faster also.

My point here is if initially, your expectations were not really high then opt to upgrade ram and hdd, you MIGHT find it to exceed your initial expectations. Youll even add 45min - 1hr on the batt life which is a very good thing for portability.

pwede ra kaayo didto i-uli nimo ang product kung di ka ganahan. no questions asked. ingnon raka would you like store credit or cash sir? hahahaha...

kasuyway ko palit ug cat 5 cable isa ka rolyo para magnetwork sa balay. unya tan-aw ko lisod man kamang2x sa ubos sa balay. bugnaw pa gyud unya naa pa gyud racoon makita nimo. ako nalang ilisan ug wifi dongle para way libog. mao to gidawat ra sa FRY's ang cable unya ilisan ug wifi dongle. naa pa sukli.

unsay overall specs? W8 is lighter AFAIK compared to W7...

ang kahinay naman gud ron sa system dili ra procie tanawon... oftentimes, RAM og HDD ang culprit... not to mention, bloatware and gazillions of startup items that OEM loves to install...

the usual that comes with budget offerings bro. 2gb ram and 320gb or 500gb hdd on both systems. cud be bloatware kay i was able to use my win7 installer on the atom netbook while the win8 one was default win8 sa pagpalit.

(the netbook i mentioned having atom running window7 is owned by my mother)

It should be ram and windows 8. Gamay naman gyud ang 2gb for win 8. Samot na daghan bloatwares ug startup items.

I know how atom feels like as my wife used to have an hp mini with an atom N270. All i can say is, current mobile celerons are way way faster than an atom.
