if heat is a problem then SB and IB will have no performance difference gyud guro, clock for clock, IB is 5-10% better than SB but will be held off by heat, 4.9 SB = 4.5 IB performance wise but heat generated by the SB at that clock is almost the same as the IB on the said clock of 4.5.

clock for clock "at stock" speed, mas pas2x ang IB. based ni sa mga benchmarks... the heat difference is not that much at stock. it's only during OC na pronounced kaayo ang temp difference nila...

regarding the OC thing, these 2 offerings are entirely different though... both needs different approach... what will work on the SB will not work on the IB and vice versa... we, users, just need sometime to understand and tame this new animal from Intel... and on Intel's side, they "must" find the way and explanation on how to resolve this heat phenomenon during OC... this might be an insight to "Haswell" as well... but "we still don't know"... the competition (AMD) might have a foot inside the door step now if Intel will not act fast...

    OT:

G860... hehehe...

    Intel, pagdali oi!

pilay TjMax sa SB nga 2500K? ang IB nga 3570K kay 105 Celsius man siguro... so expected nga mas init jud siya compared to SB... but init or bugnaw is relative... but since designed siya nga 105 ang max, so 80 to 90 celsius kaya pa niya though init na jud na kaayo hinuon but it is something not new... mobile processors can even be hotter...

but anyway, init jud tuod siya relative to SB...

ngita ko's Tj max sa "Data Sheet" sa intel, wla man gi pakita ang value... wla pud gi butang ang exact Tj max sa ilahang "Thermal Mechanical Specifications and Design Guidelines (TMSDG)" document...

just to share... for base line info... our ICs here have their Tj max @ 150 deg C (some have lower than 150 Deg C pud hinoon)... for sure, mas taas pa ani ang mga CPU... mao ni na mo ingon gyud ko na "ok ra ni"... Ivy Bridge processors "Passed" Intel's Quality Assurance and Reliability requirement before they're released into the market...

Just curious, Could heat possibly have an effect on the motherboard? Maybe in the long run right? Maybe a year later, Just in time for a replacement.

bro, if too much heat that's more than the intended design then the answer is yes... the mobos are designed to w/stand more than 150 Deg C... as well as all the other components inside...

for OC, you're stressing almost all components to their max level... so, it is imperative that all the components lifespan will be shortened compared to its designed lifespan... this is where a good and efficient cooling system is a "must". OC'ed components would still be good up to 3, 5 yrs or even more granting na wla nag patuyang ug OC... kun mag patuyang ug OC, aw, guba ang component(s)... another exemption sa akoang gi state na years kay kun mo bigay ang capacitors sa boards (mobo, GPUs & PSU). dead meat na gyud ni. pwede ra ni maayo kun ilisan ug capacitor w/ the same rating. other exclusion kay wla nako gi include kun ma "short" ang components due to other factors... ug kun masakit ang owner ug "Upgraditis"... hehehe...

    @ PagkahomotSAimongUTOToi

i don't think it's really an issue... kay still within the specs man ang iyang pagka init except lang kung mag extreme OC ka and running for 24/7...

these chips are designed that way, so ok ra na siya... kung i compare nimo sa lain nga mas bugnaw, aw init jud siya... and again, this is not the first time, naa pay mas init sa mga processor sa una pa, both from Intel and AMD...

mao raman ni akong nakita for 2500k... murag lahi man guro ni sa Tjmax....

Tcase (junction to ambient thermal resistance)... mao ni sya... mao ni ang gi reflect sa Intel... wla nila gi divulge ang Tj max (max operating junction temperature)... mao ni ang temp sa die ug sulod sa package during its operation...

by the way, during the reflow soldering, the boards will undergo 260 Deg C... on the wave soldering process..
