this, i think, is what majority thinks about emo. and also, post-hardcore is now considered only a category of emo music. still i'm puzzled what's the difference between pure emo and post hardcore. err...

"emo" is just a marketing term invented to atrract people... giving post-hardcore a radio friendly sound/label... actually music wise "pure-emo" is post-hardcore... the beat time signature, chord pattern. riffs... everything sounds like a mellowed punk hardcore... unfortunately with the invention of the word emo alotta bands came out with a mellower version... till it came to it's present poppy/crappy state pero infairness naa sad mga new bands with some hard sh#t like with broken wings and the hurt process and yeah my chemical romance

yeah, My Chemical Romance really is pure EMO...
The Used also is an EMO-band but when they're second album was released, i think they switched...i think....

and by the way, opeth is a metal band...

dugaya na ani nga topic uy.. wala pa gyud ni nag daug the following is my two-cents-worth on the current topic.. there was a previous discussion about weezer being emo so the following post starts that way... i posted this last year or a couple of years ago.. here it goes.. :

Regarding weezer being considered as an EMO band, well that's not entirely true... they are more geek rock or nerd punk than anything else.. however, they do have the classic "emo" sound and chord progressions, specially on the guitar aspect... But during a recent interview, Rivers Cuomo decidedly distanced himself from the "emo" label by saying that they were never an "emo" band in the first place..

I'm not sure when the word "EMO" was exactly coined, but i think it was more or less a description of the singing style of Ian McKaye, lead singer for the seminal Emo/hardcore outfit FUGAZI... McKaye used to literally CRY onstage while performing the most heartwrenching parts of their songs... He became sort of an icon for the so-called "emo" generation, his famous singing style therefore being emulated by a lot of early emo singers...

nowadays, the "emo" that we constantly hear about is quite a far cry from the genre that was started out by fugazi, the promise ring, sunny day real estate, etc, etc.... It now has a "poppish" feel to it that has obviously been incorporated by label executives to make the songs of these new bands "EAR CANDY"...

LASTLY, to label a genre emo, doesn't mean that all other genres lack the intrinsic element needed in a good song: EMOTION... Its just that much like the blues, "emo music", as kids call it nowadays, deal about despair, loss, love, hurt etc, etc... Compounded with driving yet stunningly simple guitar parts, the use of augmented and minor chords, steady yet powerful drum patterns and the soaring, wailing, hauntingly melodic screams of the vocalist, these subjects become expressed in the most sensitive yet aggressive manner... To me the genre "EMO", is so very, very aptly NAMED....

wala sad ko kasbut anang label nga emo.. "emotional", Ngano emo ray emotional na kind of music? diba kung mutukar mga tao, naa man gyud silay emotion? unsa man say dapat na emotions imong naa kung mutukar ka kag emo? kung happy diay ka, diba emotion man sad nang happiness? pero dila ka ma labeled ug emo basta happy ka... c celine dion diay, kung mu kanta emotional kaayo, pero dili sya ma labeled og emo, hehe... or ang meaning ba sa emo kay "emotional punk/hardcore", wala diay to mga emotion ang mga karaan nga mga punk, eg *** pistols, kagrabe ato nilag emotion.. weezer blue album cant be labeled emo, but thier pinkerton album could possibly be labeled emo... hay atay, kinsa bai ga coin aning word na emo...
